The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) made a significant technological advancement during the recent “Exercise Wallaby,” marking a milestone with the deployment of the largest coordinated drone swarm in its history. This operation saw over 100 autonomous drones flying collectively for an impressive total of 560 hours, demonstrating the SAF’s commitment to modernizing its military capabilities.
In this ambitious exercise, more than 200 drones were utilized across various phases, showcasing the versatility and operational capabilities of unmanned systems. Approximately half of these drones engaged in coordinated flights, their main objective being to generate detailed 3D maps of the area while relaying critical situational data across the operational battlefield. This accomplishment highlights the growing importance of drone technology in enhancing situational awareness for military operations.
A notable aspect of this exercise was its integration with Singapore’s existing digital command network. The drones functioned not only as surveillance tools but also as airborne 5G relay nodes.
