Surg Vice Admiral Vivek Hande has officially taken up the role of Director General (Organisation & Personnel) within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). This significant appointment is based in the office of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) and took effect today.
An alumnus of both the Armed Forces Medical College and the National Defence College, Vice Admiral Hande is recognized as a distinguished physician and gastroenterologist. His career has been marked by a blend of clinical excellence and administrative acumen, establishing him as a leading figure in his field.
Before his current role, he served as the Senior Consultant in Medicine at the DGAFMS, where he played a crucial role in medical strategy and support for the armed forces. Throughout his service, he has held numerous vital clinical and administrative positions, including his tenure as the Executive Officer and later as Commanding Officer at INHS Asvini in Mumbai, which is one of the Indian Navy’s foremost medical establishments.
In a ceremony acknowledging this transition, Surg Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, the Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, extended her congratulations to Vice Admiral Hande on both his elevation to the rank of Vice Admiral and his new responsibilities. This appointment is viewed as a pivotal step in bolstering leadership at the highest levels of AFMS, which plays an essential role in delivering comprehensive medical support to the Armed Forces during both peacetime and conflict.
