Three CRPF Personnel Killed in Udhampur Road Accident

Three members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries when their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Kadwa area of Udhampur district on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 10:30 AM as a CRPF team was returning from an operational deployment in Basantgarh. While navigating a narrow segment of the hilly Kandva–Basantgarh road, the vehicle reportedly lost control, leading to the tragic accident.

In the wake of the incident, police teams and local residents quickly initiated a rescue operation, successfully evacuating the injured to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel are currently providing care to the wounded, with several individuals reported to be in critical condition.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed his concern over the accident on the social media platform X, stating, “Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. I have just now spoken to DC Ms. Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation. Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured.”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also conveyed his condolences, stating, “Saddened by the loss of CRPF personnel due to an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed senior officials to ensure best possible care and assistance,” his office communicated on X.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. This incident has underscored the dangers that security forces encounter, not just during combat, but also while operating in challenging terrains.

Authorities have assured that all necessary support will be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured personnel.
