Turkey has officially announced its intent to export two armored, weaponized multi-purpose patrol boats to a Southeast Asian nation, marking a significant milestone as the first sale of this type of naval platform to that region. The transaction is a collaborative effort between Bay Galata and Kraken Marine Industries, which will operate under a joint business model for the delivery of the vessels.
This agreement is part of Turkey’s broader strategy to enhance its foreign military sales, which have recently exceeded $10 billion across various domains, including air, land, and naval systems. Notably, Turkish shipbuilders have expanded their international presence with offerings such as corvettes, patrol vessels, autonomous systems, and advanced naval combat systems.
Bay Galata is well-known for its diverse portfolio, which includes the cutting-edge TUZOQ counter-drone suite, innovative drone-seeker ammunition, surveillance and targeting solutions, as well as armored personnel carriers. On the other hand, Kraken Marine Industries specializes in military ship engineering, maritime technology integrations, and high-speed boat designs, boasting systems such as the K3 Scout, K4 Manta, and K5 Kraken.
Officials from Turkey have emphasized that this achievement underscores the viability of homegrown defense products as affordable alternatives, particularly for training, sustainment services, and localization incentives, challenging the dominant position of European and American suppliers in the region.
This recent sale is perceived as a strategic entry point for Turkey to bolster its naval export activities throughout Southeast Asia. Officials believe it aligns with the rising demand for enhanced maritime security measures in response to increasing threats like piracy, trafficking, and poaching that have emerged in the area.
