In a landmark move for regional defense collaboration, the UAE’s state-owned EDGE Group has partnered with the US-based technology and defense company Anduril to develop next-generation autonomous systems. The newly established joint venture, known as the EDGE-Anduril Production Alliance, will focus on the design, manufacturing, and sustainment of advanced autonomous air systems.

At the heart of this partnership is the Omen, a hover-to-cruise Autonomous Air Vehicle, which marks the first platform to emerge from their collaboration. The UAE has pledged to acquire an initial batch of 50 Omen units, setting the stage for a production base that is expected to boost local supply chains and expedite domestic mass production capabilities. The Omen is engineered for dual-use operations, allowing for long-range missions, heavy payload deliveries, and versatile deployment options without the necessity for runways.

Anduril brings robust software-driven capabilities to the partnership, notably through its Lattice Mission Autonomy platform, which enhances operational performance. EDGE Group, on the other hand, contributes valuable regional manufacturing expertise and local insights. This synergistic combination is anticipated to enable accelerated development cycles, facilitating a seamless transition from design to full-rate production by the end of 2028, all while adhering to the regulatory frameworks of both the US and UAE.

Beyond military functions, the Omen is envisioned as a solution for various commercial and humanitarian applications. It is designed to assist in disaster relief efforts, logistics deliveries in remote regions, and the establishment of mobile communications infrastructure, showcasing its versatility across different operational sceneries.

This collaboration is a continuation of the strengthening ties between the UAE and US defense sectors. The UAE has previously acquired advanced military technologies from the US, including F-35 fighter jets and MQ-9 Reaper drones, as well as precision-guided munitions like Joint Direct Attack Munition kits and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.

Furthermore, local partnerships with prominent defense firms such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have facilitated the co-production of specialized military systems including radar technologies, missile defense components, and electronic warfare solutions. The UAE’s collaboration with US companies on autonomous platforms is also noteworthy, alongside the participation in joint exercises to integrate American combat systems into regional operational frameworks.

This strategic alliance is poised to elevate the defense capabilities of both nations while reinforcing their collaborative efforts in addressing evolving security challenges.
