UAE state corporation EDGE Group has signed a letter of intent with Ecuador to develop a comprehensive national security infrastructure program aimed at enhancing the country’s border surveillance and protection systems. This agreement was highlighted during the official visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Quito, marking a significant step in expanding military cooperation between the two nations.
The proposed multi-year program will enable EDGE to provide advanced surveillance technologies aimed at modernizing Ecuador’s territorial defense operations. The initiative is designed not only to upgrade existing capabilities but also includes training programs and localization of tactical equipment development to ensure long-term operational readiness.
“This agreement represents a decisive step in deepening our strategic partnership with Ecuador’s Ministry of Defence,” said Omar Al Zaabi, Commercial President of EDGE Group. He emphasized that this initiative builds upon the company’s extensive experience in implementing complex national security and defense projects across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
These initiatives typically encompass a range of advanced features, including surveillance architectures, sensor networks, and integrated command centers, complemented by competency programs that aim to enhance domestic operational capacity. Al Zaabi noted, “Through this initiative, we would bring that experience to Ecuador by deploying high-performance surveillance and protection capabilities while building robust in-country expertise to secure lasting operational advantage and resilience.”
This new partnership with Ecuador follows several recent collaborations by EDGE Group. Earlier this year, the company finalized an industry cooperation deal with South Korea, focusing on a joint project for the design, development, training, and sustainment of multi-domain defense capabilities. In February, EDGE partnered with French defense contractor Safran to enhance the production and marketing of smart weapons for international markets.
Additionally, in January, EDGE engaged with Barzan Holdings, a government enterprise in Qatar, to establish a joint venture that addresses military equipment requirements for both Abu Dhabi and Doha, potentially including warheads, satellites, and various maintenance services. The company has also launched a framework with Madrid-based EM&E Group for the local production of the Ferox, a 6×6 armored vehicle stemming from the UAE’s own Jais Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected system.
Through these initiatives, EDGE Group is reinforcing its commitment to fostering international defense collaborations and enhancing security infrastructure in several regions across the globe.
