The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA II) 2026 on 20 May 2026. The examination is conducted for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force as officers after Class 12.

About NDA Examination

The NDA examination is one of the most prestigious defence entrance examinations in India. Through this examination, candidates are selected for training at the National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy before becoming commissioned officers in the Armed Forces.

  • Online Application Start Date: 20 May 2026
  • Last Date to Apply: 9 June 2026
  • NDA II 2026 Examination Date: 13 September 2026

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Candidates must be citizens of India or satisfy the nationality conditions mentioned in the official notification.

Age Limit

Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 01st January 2008 and not later than 01st January 2011 are eligible.

Educational Qualification

  • Army Wing: Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination.
  • Air Force and Naval Wings: Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics.

Students appearing in Class 12 examinations are also eligible to apply.

Marital Status

Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible.

The written examination consists of two papers:

Selection Process

The NDA selection process consists of:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview
  3. Medical Examination
  4. Final Merit List

Candidates who clear the written examination are called for the SSB interview, which tests intelligence, personality and leadership qualities.

Training After Selection

Selected candidates receive military training at the National Defence Academy located in Pune. After NDA training, cadets move to their respective service academies for specialized training.
