This new agreement, signed in Rome by US Space Force (USSF) Chief of Space Operations General Chance Saltzman and Italian Air Force Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Luca Goretti, seeks to improve interoperability between the USSF and the Italian Air Force. The focus is on strengthening their capabilities to protect and defend the increasingly critical space domain.
The USSF has highlighted the strategic importance of the space sector, underscoring that this agreement marks a pivotal opportunity to enhance skills and bolster collective security efforts. Moreover, the USSF has recently adopted the Survivable Endurable Evolution (S2E2) threat detection system, a modern upgrade to previous technologies dating back to the 1960s. The S2E2 system incorporates advanced command and control functions, integrating satellite-based sensors with ground-based processing capabilities, thereby enhancing early missile warning systems and ensuring effective nuclear detonation detection through GPS technology.
