The US Army has announced a significant contract with Knight’s Armament, valued at $21 million, to produce and deliver M110 semi-automatic sniper systems intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This initiative is part of the fiscal 2024 Ukraine Security Initiative and Partnership Capacity Building funds. The completion of deliveries is expected by January 30, 2027.
This recent contract follows an earlier commitment made last year to supply these rifles to Ukraine, marking a continued investment in Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The M110 rifle system is reportedly being utilized by various branches of the Ukrainian military, including Special Forces and the National Guard, as well as by foreign volunteers serving in the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine.
The M110 is designed with several notable features. It is a 7.62mm caliber rifle, measuring 46.75 inches (119 cm) in overall length, and has a barrel length of 20 inches (50.8 centimeters). Weighing in at 13.84 pounds (6.27 kilograms), which includes its suppressor and day optic scope, the M110 boasts a remarkable capability to effectively engage targets at distances up to 800 meters (2,625 feet).
Enhancing its versatility, the rifle is equipped with an XM151 optic (Leupold Mark 4 3.5–10× LR/T) offering 3.5–10× variable magnification, and it can also be fitted with a night sight, broadening its operational potential across different combat scenarios.
The M110 has been in service with the US Army since 2008 and has proven to be particularly effective in urban environments characterized by multiple targets and frequent close-quarters engagements. This latest contract exemplifies ongoing support from the US to enhance the defensive capabilities of Ukrainian forces amidst ongoing conflicts.
