US Army Selects Neros Technologies as Main Supplier for Unmanned Aerial Systems Program

The US Army has officially named Neros Technologies as one of three primary suppliers for its Purpose-Built Attritable Systems (PBAS) program, which aims to equip platoon-level units with advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS) designed for flexibility and readiness in various mission scenarios.

Neros, a California-based technology firm, is set to deliver its leading Archer drones in two sizes: 5-inch (13-centimeter) and 10-inch (25-centimeter) models, building upon an existing 8-inch (20-centimeter) variant. The Archer drones are engineered to carry a range of payloads, including anti-armor and anti-personnel munitions, allowing them to strike targets with precision at distances exceeding 20 kilometers (12 miles). Additionally, the non-strike versions of the Archer can be equipped with customizable sensors for a variety of missions such as surveillance and reconnaissance.

In conjunction with the delivery of these drones, Neros will also provide the Army with its proprietary Flatbow system, an enhanced portable solution for controlling the Archer drones. This system is designed to function effectively in environments plagued by electronic interference, thereby improving operational reliability for soldiers on the ground.

Neros Technologies emphasizes that this recent selection for the PBAS program is the result of over two years of rigorous development and testing in collaboration with military entities in both the United States and Ukraine. Founded just last year, the company highlighted the substantial engineering efforts and team dedication devoted to designing and producing the custom components necessary to meet stringent performance standards while ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain.

In tandem with this significant achievement, Neros has successfully closed a $75 million funding round led by Sequoia Capital, pushing its total capital raised beyond $120 million. These funds are earmarked for increasing the production capacity of the Archer drones and Flatbow control systems, strengthening a domestic supply chain devoid of Chinese components, and furthering research into advanced autonomous UAS architecture.

Soren Monroe-Anderson, CEO of Neros, remarked on the importance of this procurement program, stating that it underscores the Army’s and the Department of Defense’s commitment to addressing crucial gaps in drone capabilities as well as fortifying the industrial base. Monroe-Anderson reiterated Neros’ dedication to supporting these efforts and fulfilling the rising demand for small UAS defense solutions in the current landscape.
