In a significant operational visit, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, AVSM, VSM, the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), assessed the operational readiness and efficiency of the 92 Base Hospital located in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar. This visit marks a landmark moment as Admiral Sarin is the first woman to hold the esteemed position of DGAFMS, emphasizing the growing representation of women in leadership roles within the Indian Armed Forces.
During her engagement at the hospital, Admiral Sarin took time to interact with a diverse group of hospital staff, including officers, nursing officers, junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and other ranks. She praised the team’s unwavering professionalism and dedication, underscoring the crucial role they play in maintaining exceptional standards of medical care, particularly in the challenging and strategically significant region of Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, she made personal visits to patients, offering encouragement and accentuating the importance of a positive mindset in the face of medical challenges.
In her remarks to the troops, Admiral Sarin reinforced the values of the Army Medical Corps (AMC), motivating all ranks to uphold the integrity of the AMC and to “keep the AMC flag flying high.” The AMC is integral to addressing the medical needs of the armed services, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, particularly in field operations where healthcare delivery can be particularly demanding.
In a commendable demonstration of environmental responsibility, Admiral Sarin participated in a tree plantation drive on the hospital premises. Joined by personnel from various military units, she planted saplings, highlighting the armed forces’ commitment to sustainability. This initiative is part of broader military-led efforts in the region, including a recent afforestation campaign in Doda district, which sought to mitigate air pollution and address global warming through community engagement.
Ceremonial exchanges complemented Admiral Sarin’s visit, including the presentation of mementos that bolstered camaraderie and morale among the personnel.
