Vice Admiral K. Srinivas officially took over as the Director General Naval Projects (DGNP) in Visakhapatnam on November 1, 2025. This appointment comes after his tenure as Admiral Superintendent at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, marking a pivotal shift in the leadership of a vital hub for naval infrastructure development in India.
Vice Admiral Srinivas brings with him over 35 years of distinguished service in the Indian Navy, having been commissioned in 1990. His educational background includes attendance at Sainik School, Korukonda, and the National Defence Academy (NDA). Throughout his extensive career, he has held numerous operational and technical roles that have significantly contributed to the modernization and self-reliance initiatives of the Navy.
His vast experience encompasses various key positions, notably at sea, where he served aboard the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat in multiple operational capacities. A noteworthy highlight of his career was his role as Warship Production Superintendent in Severodvinsk, Russia. There, he was instrumental in the repair and re-equipping of INS Vikramaditya, an acquisition that greatly enhanced India’s naval aviation capabilities.
Additionally, Vice Admiral Srinivas has occupied crucial roles at Naval Headquarters (NHQ) as the Principal Director Fleet Maintenance, where he managed the operational readiness and maintenance of the Navy’s fleet assets. He also led INS Shivaji, the navy’s premier technical training institution located in Lonavla, where he championed advancements in marine engineering training and fostered technological innovation.
His previous designation as Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyard and Refit) saw him overseeing critical aspects of maintenance and ship repair operations at various dockyards, enhancing the Navy’s readiness and efficiency.
Vice Admiral Srinivas is also academically accomplished, having graduated from the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, the Naval War College in Karanja, and the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi. This robust educational foundation has allowed him to blend operational experience with strategic insight, thereby contributing effectively to the Navy’s long-term modernization plans and infrastructure development goals.
In his new role as DGNP, Vice Admiral Srinivas will oversee significant initiatives under the Directorate General of Naval Projects, a key player in expanding India’s naval infrastructure. Projects like Project Seabird and various plans for enhancing self-reliance in shipbuilding and maintenance will fall under his purview. His leadership further underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to operational excellence, indigenous capability development, and embracing technological advancements in the maritime domain.
