What Are The Characteristics Of A Rejectable Candidate In SSB?

There are a few prominent characteristics that are the main reasons for a candidate’s rejection. Even though these points are not mentioned anywhere as such officially but based on multiple in-depth observations. If a person does any of the mentioned below there is a high chance the experienced selectors will also notice these in him/her and will proceed accordingly.

Lack Of Confidence Or Over Confidence
A person when sure of their belief system shows that they have confidence in their knowledge and execution of their task. When a person lacks these and they don’t try to overcome their weaknesses but carries on thinking that they are capable of executing it with that weakness then amidst the tasks the confusion is caused by this overconfidence or lack of confidence.

Lack Of Preparation
This quality is something that takes a candidate to different paths. It can make them under confident which is not seen as good for a candidate. It could also be a result of being overconfident which is again a negative quality. If one is not prepared well then it does hamper the execution of all the tasks and will ultimately lead to sabotage of the attempt. One thing we should remember is that even if we don’t get through the selection process, we should learn and expand our perspectives through the process of updating or gaining knowledge.

Bluffing
Bluffing is simply not telling the truth and exaggerating. This is something that is discouraged as someone who is aspiring to be an army officer shouldn’t boast of things or achievements that they didn’t do. It is not right to hide the truth and the experienced selectors of SSB will surely detect it when the candidate will be put to rigorous testing.

Poor Physical Standards And Robustness
Inadequate stamina leads to not being able to complete individual obstacles and have serious trouble while clearing the group obstacles and seeking more than enough help from the group members in the GTO tasks.

Lack Of Mental Robustness
Lack of Mental Robustness makes one weak in taking strong and quick decisions, risks, the capability to fight against the odds, and maintaining balance during an adverse situation. You will face different sorts of pressure as a defence officer and have to tackle them smoothly and calmly and for that one needs to be mentally robust.

Negative Thoughts
They weaken your morals and fighting spirit to succeed or to successfully completion of any task that is given to you. One thing you need to keep in mind is that with a lot of hard work you also need to believe in yourself. Always remember that SSB is looking for candidates with an overall balanced personality with leadership qualities. Remember SSB is a selection centre and not a rejection centre. It depends on how focused and determined you are to achieve your dreams.

Mind-set Prior To And On Reporting At SSB
The mind-set is characterized by the problems of lack of self-belief and confidence. The manifestation of this outlook is in efforts made to find out as to “What exactly SSB wants from me?” As a consequence, a large amount of time is wasted in trying to gather such information from each-other, experienced friends, and various websites. Great emphasis is laid by such candidates on practicing psychology tests, particularly stories. They are trying to seek the “ideal answers to routine questions” which are being asked in the interview and they are also “desperate to make a good impression”. The candidates are also very vulnerable to being influenced by illogical ideas.

Let’s talk about the mindset of the candidates during their SSB at all testing techniques and stages:

PPDT
They make stories on social issues which often may not relate to the picture shown. In the discussion, they out-shout each other because of their insecurity.

Psychology Test
The candidates try their utmost to bring out all the OLQs in the stories, resulting in a display of confused thoughts. They write long responses in SRT and manage to complete less than 40 situations. They give ideal and sometimes unrealistic and totally patriotic reactions in TAT, SRT, WAT, and SDT. I mean how one could be so patriotic and ideal even before getting any kind of academy training that breaks you mentally and shape you.

The candidates try hard to show themselves as extra social, insecure, and desperate people who possess OLQs. Candidates try to make extremely social and heroic stories. A simple general story will do the needful. They try to bring one quality in each of their stories. This clearly indicates the selectors about your bad state of preparedness, panic, and confused thoughts.

GTO
They try to win the sympathy of GTO by behaving extra gentlemanly and extra hard. All this seems pretty unrealistic most of the time. It is about maintaining that limit. Your solutions should have more of a realistic approach. They try to act in a manner that will please the GTO and not what is rationally correct.

In GPE they will become superhuman and apprehend dacoits or terrorists with bare hands or by using shot-guns borrowed from someone else. In GOR and Individual obstacles, their performance would be clumsy because of being physically unfit.

Interview
Either they become very honest here ending in answering things that are not needed and makes you sound like a kid who is answering without thinking. Or some just try to keep hide their real self fully and it becomes pretty obvious. The focus of such a candidate would be on trying to give replies which will please the IO. When asked about the weaknesses in teachers, friends or parents they will say that everything is perfect considering it a sign of display of loyalty.

In most of cases, the reason for rejection is that the individual is deficient in some facets of personality and not because of some blunders committed. The solution for success lies in not trying to introspect day in and day out as to what went wrong but accepting that you were not good enough. You should make efforts for overall improvement and will be successful.

The SSB selectors are more interested in taking a person which will be useful to the organisation and will adapt to the needs and demands of the armed forces rather than fulfilling their own wishes. They are humans after all and they are given the responsibility of making sure the right candidate reaches the academy. It is not the case that the rejected candidate is not capable of becoming an officer. He just couldn’t perform up to the mark this time due to certain limitations or inhibitions.
