Induction Of Women Fighter Pilots Into IAF Made Permanent, The defence ministry has decided to convert the experimental scheme for induction of women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force into a permanent scheme in the year 2022. Flying Officer Mawya Sudan: 1st Ever Fighter Pilot from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district and 12th woman officer in the country to be inducted as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Fight Pilot’s father, Vinod Sharma, who is a JE in SMVD Shrine Board, told the Excelsior that since her school days, Mawya was included towards Air Force and always wanted to become a Fight Pilot.

Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh: 1st woman fighter pilot to join the “Golden Arrows” Rafale Squadron of the Indian Air Force. Hailed from Varanasi, UP, she is a MiG-21 fighter pilot who also worked alongside Wing Commander Abhinandan.

Flight Lieutenant Pratibha Poonia: 2nd Woman Fighter Pilot from Rajasthan to be a part of the Indian Air Force. Hailing from Rajgarh, Rajasthan, and a defence background, had trained on Hawk aircraft at Bidar Air Force Station along with Flight Lt. Shivangi Singh and has been a Su – 30 MKI pilot.

Flying Officer Antara Mehta: 1st Woman Fighter Pilot from Nagpur & Maharashtra and the 10th woman fighter pilot in India passed out in 2020. An engineer and national-level basketball player, she had harboured the dream of joining the IAF, ever since she was a child.

Flying Officer Arti Tomar: Following the feet of Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and other woman fighter pilots, Arti Tomar becomes the ninth women fighter pilot, who graduated in the year 2019 . Arti says, “In 2016, when I read about Avani Chaturvedi that gave me the inspiration to become a fighter pilot.” It is to be noted that Arti is the only women fighter pilot who graduated this year from the Dundigal Academy. “Air Force is in itself is fascinating, but the experience of being a fighter pilot and flying an aircraft is something beyond words.” Arti Tomar has learnt to fly Pilatus airfcart and wishes to learn and fly different aircraft soon.

Flying Officer Meghana Shanbough: Flying Officer Meghana Shanbough on Saturday inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) as fighter pilot, 6th Female Fighter Pilot of Indian Air Force. The 24-year-old Meghana, who is hailing from Chikmaglur in Mysore of Karnataka. Meghana , the first fighter pilot from South India, will be the sixth women fighter pilot , to be inducted into the IAF. All other five women fighter pilots who were commissioned earlier in the IAF hailed from various states of MP, Rajasthan, Bihar and UP.

Flight Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi: A recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 1st Woman fighter pilot of IAF to take a solo flight in a MiG-21. Hailing from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh she was posted in Indian Air Force No. 23 Squadron Panthers in Suratgarh, Rajasthan.

Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth: A recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 1st Woman fighter pilot of IAF to take a solo flight in a MiG-21 ‘Bison’. Hailing from Darbhanga, Bihar she was posted in Indian Air Force No. 3 Squadron Cobras in Ambala, Haryana.

Flight Lieutenant Mohana Singh Jitarwal: A recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 1st Woman fighter pilot of IAF to become a fully operational by day on a Hawk Mk.132 advance jet trainer. Hailing from Agra, UP and a defence background, she had been trained in both Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground fighting mode.
