In a formal ceremony held at the Indian Coast Guard Air Station in Chennai, Inspector General Yoginder Dhaka, TM, took over as the new head of the Coast Guard Region (East) on February 6, 2026. This significant handover of leadership from Inspector General Datwinder Singh Saini, PTM, TM, was executed with the customary military precision that characterizes such events.
The change of command parade was attended by senior officers and personnel, highlighting the importance of this transition for the operational effectiveness of the Eastern Seaboard of the Indian Coast Guard. The ceremony not only marked a shift in leadership but also reinforced the organizationโs commitment to ensuring maritime security.
Inspector General Dhaka, who is an esteemed alumnus of the Naval Academy and the Naval War College, brings a wealth of experience gained from various roles both on land and at sea. Throughout his distinguished career, he has developed a robust expertise in operations, administration, and human resource management, making significant contributions to enhancing maritime security and organizational effectiveness.
As the new Commander of Coast Guard Region (East), Inspector General Dhaka will be tasked with critical responsibilities that include safeguarding Indiaโs extensive eastern maritime frontier, improving coastal security, overseeing search and rescue operations, and fostering collaboration among various agencies in the region.
This transition in leadership signifies the Indian Coast Guard’s ongoing commitment to capable management, professional conduct, and operational readiness as it seeks to address new and emerging maritime security challenges effectively.
