A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district, where a young Army soldier lost his life during a routine training exercise. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when an armoured tank became compromised while conducting a canal-crossing drill in the Indira Gandhi Canal.

As part of the training, armoured vehicles were maneuvering through the canal when one of the tanks encountered difficulties, becoming stuck mid-way and subsequently began to sink rapidly. According to local police reports, there were two soldiers aboard the tank at the time of the emergency. Fortunately, one soldier was able to escape the sinking vehicle, while the other was tragically trapped inside.

Emergency response teams, including the police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Civil Defence, arrived on the scene and undertook a significant rescue operation that lasted several hours. Despite their efforts, the trapped soldier’s body was ultimately recovered from the canal.

In light of this heartbreaking incident, authorities have stated that a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place. Meanwhile, the Army has not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased soldier, and an inquiry into the details and circumstances surrounding the accident is anticipated. The community is mourning the loss as investigations aim to ascertain how such a tragic event could occur during a routine exercise.
