Pune-based Zynetra Defence has successfully conducted trials of its indigenous Punisher Multi-Purpose Gun Mount at Akhnoor in Jammu & Kashmir, marking a significant advancement in India’s counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) capabilities.

The Punisher gun mount is engineered to provide precision firepower across a range of calibres, spanning from 7.62mm to 14.5mm. Its design includes interchangeable weapon cradles, semi-automatic operation, and integration with targeted sighting systems. Powered by a high-torque brushless DC motor with a robust 12-hour battery backup, the system promises reliability even under challenging operational conditions.

Trials conducted in the strategically sensitive Akhnoor region assessed the gun mount’s target acquisition, tracking, and neutralisation capabilities—critical factors in addressing drone threats near the Indo-Pak border. The Punisher is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing surveillance and defence networks, enhancing operational readiness in forward areas.

The development of the Punisher aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which promotes self-reliance in defence manufacturing. This project demonstrates the potential of private-sector innovation to support frontline forces with advanced, indigenously developed technologies. Officials pointed out that the system’s flexible multi-role capability could position it as a vital asset within India’s layered air defence strategy.

The success of these trials highlights the growing proficiency of Indian defence manufacturers in creating tailored solutions to meet modern asymmetric threats, thereby reducing reliance on imports and strengthening the national defence industrial base. Future refinements and deployment of the Punisher across different branches of the Indian Armed Forces are anticipated, further solidifying this system’s role in national security.

This landmark achievement emphasizes India’s commitment to fostering indigenous innovation and enhancing strategic preparedness, particularly in regions facing high threats.
