EASTERN FLEET GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

  • The Eastern Fleet commemorated its Golden Jubilee on 06 and 07 Apr 2022 at Visakhapatnam with a host of events. The major highlights of the celebrations included a Wreath Laying Ceremony, a Seminar themed ‘Emerging Challenges in Eastern Maritime Theatre – Future Readiness of Eastern Fleet’, an Awards ceremony and interactions with Fleet personnel and their families.
  • As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, a documentary encapsulating the growth of the Eastern Fleet from its formation in 1971 to its present position of eminence, was also screened.
  • The events were attended by 14 former Fleet Commanders, besides a large number of Flag Officers, officers, sailors and their families.
  • INS Shivalik was adjudged as the Best Ship of the Eastern Fleet. INS Kadmatt was adjudged as the Best Corvette, and the Most Spirited Ship trophy was awarded jointly to INS Satpura and INS Kora.

Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Pinaka ADMR Successfully Flight-tested

  • Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (ADM) rocket systems have been successfully flight-tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army at Pokhran Firing Ranges.
  • A total of 24 EPRS rockets were fired for different ranges during the last fortnight. Required accuracy and consistency were achieved by the rockets meeting all trial objectives satisfactorily.
  • The Pinaka rocket system has been developed by Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune supported by High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, another Pune-based laboratory of DRDO.

Pakistan Conducts Test Flight of Shaheen-III  

  • Pakistan’s Army on Saturday conducted a successful flight test of the surface-to-surface medium-range ballistic missile Shaheen-III which can strike targets up to 2,750 kilometres.

India’s Nuclear Programme Is for Improving Quality of Life

  • Union Minister of State Science & Technology; Earth Sciences, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that India’s Nuclear Programme is for improving quality of life and not for causing harm to human life.
  • Dr Jitendra Singh said that applications of nuclear energy and radiation have played a significant role in the field of electricity production, agriculture, medicine, health, food preservation, improved seeds varieties, water purification technologies, urban waste management technologies, industrial application of radioisotopes and radiation technologies, particularly in the petroleum industry.
  • Dr Jitendra Singh said that Space Technology is being applied in diverse fields and sectors to bring “ease of living” for common man. ISRO scientists briefed the committee meeting about the widespread application of Space Technology in fields like Agriculture, Soils, Water Resources, Land Use/Land Cover, Rural Development, Earth and Climate Studies, Geosciences, Urban & Infrastructure, Disaster Management Support, Forestry and Ecology and Using Geospatial Technology as a tool for enabling Decision Support Systems. The Minister said that in the recent past Drone Technology is being used to bring a new revolution in the field of agriculture.

ALH MK III Sqn, Has Been Commissioned In ICG

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday commissioned a squadron of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III, which will strengthen maritime security.
  • ALH MK III choppers are fitted with modern surveillance radar and electro-optical equipment which enables them to undertake the role of long-range maritime reconnaissance.
  • These helicopters also feature an array of state-of-the-art sensors, which add up to the maritime prowess of the Indian Coast Guard at sea. They have traffic alert and collision avoidance system, advanced communication systems, a heavy machine gun, a removable Medical Intensive Care Unit and other facilities.
  • Four such helicopters are positioned at Bhubaneswar, covering the entire coast of West Bengal and Orissa.

Amit Shah Inaugurated Tourism Facilities for Seema Darshan

  • Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed tourism facilities for Seema Darshan at Nadabet in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat.
  • Minister said that infiltration should be stopped in the Kashmir Valley, internal security should be maintained in the North-East and some LWE areas, while maintaining cordiality in the relations between the two countries along the India-Bangladesh International Border.
  • Security has to be maintained, even in the difficult area of ​​the creek, there will be no other border guarding force except BSF working in such difficult conditions.
  • Gujarat government has spent Rs. 125 crores on the Seema Darshan program in Nadabet.
