IMA Commandant’s Parade Held At IMA, Dehradun

  • Indian Military Academy Commandant’s parade is held at IMA as a prelude to the final passing-out event. Also, the IMA held the Commandant’s prize distribution and award ceremony for spring term-2022 passing out courses comprising 150-regular courses and 133-technical graduate courses on Wednesday in Dehradun.
  • The passing out parade will be held on June 11, in the backdrop of the famous Chetwode Building. The Band Symphony and Multi-Activity Display will also be included in the events being showcased during the passing out parade.
  • The 377 cadets set to be commissioned into various armies are sure to earn laurels and add glory to this great institution.
  • During the ceremony, IMA Commandant Lt Gen Harinder Singh presented about 40 medals and trophies to the Gentleman Cadets (GC)s who excelled in various fields during their pre-commission training at the academy.
  • Among the award winners, GC Ajay Kumar has been conferred the Parachute Regiment Medal for best in endurance and physical toughness during the training course.
  • The Sikh Regiment Silver Medal for best sportsman was presented to Parttik Bahadur Chhetri. Similarly, GC Arvind Singh Chauhan was presented the Rajput Regiment Silver Medal for best in academics during training. The Bangladesh Trophy for best Foreign GC was presented to Tenzin Namgay of Bhutan.

Implements Revision of Allowance For Risk And Hardships For Indian Navy Personnel Deployed At Sea

  • A landmark decision has been taken by the Government of India to address the existing anomaly with respect to the compensatory allowance for Risk & Hardships (Sea Going Allowance) faced by personnel of Indian Navy while being deployed at sea.
  • This will further enhance the resolve and morale of the dedicated Naval personnel who are deployed for operations in High-Risk Areas, Anti-Piracy Operations, Maritime Security and IMBL Patrols, etc, defending our maritime interests in the Indian Ocean and beyond.
  • It is a fitting recognition of the services rendered by our men and women in whites in the year of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Army Chief Reviews Security Situation Along The LAC

  • General Manoj Pande is currently on a three day forward area visit to the LAC in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This is the maiden visit of the Army Chief to this sector after taking over as the Chief of the Indian Army.
    • COAS is being briefed by local commanders about the prevailing situation along the borders. Taking a first-hand assessment of the operational preparedness in forwarding areas, the Army Chief is scheduled to witness the high-altitude operational capabilities of deployed formations, including mountaineering skills and long-range patrolling.
    • While interacting with the Commanders during his visit, the Army Chief emphasised the need for vigil and alertness along the borders. He expressed his satisfaction on the rapid improvement of defensive posture and operational readiness of formations. He appreciated the absorption of modern technology in undertaking persistent surveillance.
    • The COAS, during his interaction with the troops deployed on the forward posts, appreciated their high morale and exhorted them to maintain the high standards of professional excellence. He also complimented the excellent synergy between the Army, CAPF, Civil Administration and Police towards operational effectiveness and sustainable development in the border areas.

Keel Laying Of Three 25t Bollard Pull Tugs

  • Contract for construction of three 25Ton Bollard Pull Tugs was concluded with M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd on 12 Nov 21 at a cost of Rs 84.75 Crores in consonance with “AatmaNirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the Government of India.
  • These Tugs are being built with a service life of 30 years. The tugs will be capable of assisting naval ships and submarines in berthing, un-berthing, and manoeuvering in confined waters.
  • The tugs will also provide afloat firefighting assistance to ships alongside & at anchorage and will have capability for limited Search and Rescue Operations.
  • Keel for all three 25T Bollard Pull Tugs (Yard 305 – Mahabali, Yard 306 – Baljeet & Yard 307 – Bajrang) was laid by Cmde Sunil Kaushik, Warship Production Superintendent (Mumbai) on 10 Jun 22 at M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd, Bharuch, Gujarat. With all major and auxiliary equipment/ systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, these tugs are proud flag bearers of “Make in India, Make for the World” initiatives of Ministry of Defence.

CISF To Guard JSW Steel Plant In Coastal Maharashtra

  • JSW Steel’s Dolvi Works plant in Maharashtra has received security support from Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), making it only the thirteenth industrial house in the country to receive this cover.
  • JSW Dolvi Works houses a 10-million-tonne-per-annum steel mill along with allied facilities and a 4-million-tonne-per-annum cement manufacturing plant.
  • CISF protects India’s vital assets such as space establishments, seaports, airports, department of atomic energy, Delhi Metro Railway Corporation, government offices in Delhi and also provides VIP security. It presently guards over 350 establishments across the country.

Rajnath Singh visits Telecommunication University in Nha

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited the Telecommunication University in Nha Trang, Vietnam and handed over a cheque of 5 million Indian Rupees for the procurement of training aids.
  • The university is known for providing training to the Vietnam People’s Army – the Vietnam Propaganda Unit of the Liberation Army, the first main force established on December 22, 1944, under the directive of late President Ho Chi Minh.
  • Earlier today, Defence Minister, handed over a USD 1 million to Vietnam’s Air Force Officers Training School for the establishment of a language and IT laboratory.
  • Defence Minister on Thursday also handed over 12 high-speed guard boats for Vietnam Border Guard at Hong Ha Shipyard made under USD 100 million lines of credit by the Indian government.

US, China spar over Taiwan issue at Shangri-La Dialogue

  • In the first face-to-face meeting, the Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sparred over the issue of Taiwan on Friday with Washington saying Beijing is trying to change the status quo over the island and Beijing condemning the arms sales to Taipei.
  • This comes as the 19th Shangri-La Dialogue is being held in Singapore. The dialogue will be held from Friday to Sunday after a two-year. It will focus mainly on security in the Asia-Pacific region and viable solutions, including the China-proposed Global Security Initiative (GSI).
  • The three-day summit will hold seven plenary sessions, two ministerial roundtable meetings and three simultaneous special sessions for delegates from more than 40 countries or regions to exchange views on regional and global security issues.

Chinese Air Force maintaining 20-25 frontline fighters near Eastern Ladakh

  • At a time when an American military officer termed the Chinese military infrastructure development along the border with India as alarming, it is emerging that the Chinese Air Force is continuously maintaining the deployment of over two dozen frontline aircraft at its Hotan air base near Eastern Ladakh sector.
  • Chinese Air Force has now maintained the presence of their 25 frontline fighters at the Hotan air base which include their J-11, and J-20 fighters.
  • “The Chinese earlier used to maintain detachments of MiG-21 class fighters there but they have now been replaced with more capable and sophisticated aircraft and in larger numbers“.
  • The Chinese Air Force is also building up new airfields close to the Indian territory which can allow them to carry out missions from lower altitudes.
  • The Indian side has also ramped up its preparedness in the view of the heightened activity by the Chinese forces on their side of the LAC and has deployed its fleet of Sukhoi-30MKIs, MiG-29s and Mirage-2000s at the forward air bases to tackle any misadventure.
