World Parkinson’s Day

  • World Parkinson’s Day is observed every year on April 11 to spread awareness about the neurodegenerative disease. The day also marks the anniversary of James Parkinson who wrote the article – An Essay on the Shaking Palsy in 1817, recognizing the disease for the first time.
  • neurodegenerative movement disorder Parkinson’s disease occurs when the dopamine-producing cells in a part of the brain called substantia nigra start to deteriorate. It mainly affects people over 60, although younger people are also at risk.
  • The symptoms of the disease are tremors in limbs, stiffness, problems in coordinating movements, posture problems, and sleep problems. Some patients may also report behavioral changes like Depression, Fatigue, Memory difficulties, and Sleep problems. Parkinson’s disease has no cure, but it can be managed by making some dietary changes. 
  • Fish oils, fava beans, antioxidant-rich meals, and foods strong in vitamins B1, C, and D are some of the foods that can help. 
  • Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown in studies to reduce nerve inflammation, increase neurotransmission, and halt neurodegeneration. Limiting sugar, sodium, and salt intake and eating plenty of grains, vegetables, and fruits can help manage symptom

Amrit Samagam

  • Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the new generation should become aware of the freedom struggle and heroes of freedom movement should be revered. Addressing a two-day conference  ‘Amrit Samagam’ in New Delhi today, Mr Shah said, ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is aimed at inculcating a sense of patriotism in the new generation. He said, if the people take small resolutions, then the country can become more powerful
  • The Minister said, in the last one year more than 25 thousand programmes were organised by the Central Government under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, while State and Union Territories have organised only seven thousand two hundred programmes. He said, Centre and State Governments should work together to celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Domestic Patent Filing Creates Record

  • India has achieved yet another milestone in the context of the Intellectual Property innovation ecosystem as the number of domestic patent filing has surpassed the number of international patent filing at the Indian Patent Office for the first time in the last 11 years.
  • A total of 19,796 patent applications were filed, out of which 10,706 were filed by Indian applicants against 9,090 by non-Indian applicants in the quarter from January to March 2022.
  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal have appreciated the consistent efforts made by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on strengthening the IPR regime in the country by fostering innovation and reducing compliance burden. The coordinated effort by the DPIIT and IP office has led to increased IP awareness among all strata of society.
  • These efforts have on one handled to an increase in the number of IPR filings, on the other hand, has reduced the pendency of patent applications at IP offices. Mr. Goyal also mentioned that this will take India a step closer to its ambitious target of being in the top 25 nations of the Global Innovation Index.

National Time Release Study, 2022

  • Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) presented a set of Time Release Studies (TRS) conducted by the department.
  • TRS are essentially a performance measurement tool for assessing the cargo clearance process of the international trade, as recommended by the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and the World Customs Organization (WCO). It adopts average cargo release time, i.e. the time taken from the arrival of the cargo at the customs station to its eventual release for import or export, as the case may be.
  • The National Time Release Study (NTRS) 2022 covered 15 major Customs formations, including four port categories – seaports, air cargo complexes (ACCs), inland container depot (ICDs) and integrated check posts (ICPs), which handle about 80 percent of the bills of entry (imports documents) and 70 percent of the shipping bills (export documents) and is based on the sample period between 1st – 7th January 2022. 
  • The NTRS 2022 has reported further improvement in the average cargo release time for all the four port categories in 2022 over corresponding period of the previous year: by 2 percent for ICPs to significantly higher 16 percent for ACCs.

80th SKOCH Summit 2022

  • The largest iron ore producer of India, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), under Ministry of Steel awarded one gold and one silver award in the 80th SKOCH Summit and SKOCH Awards recently conducted by SKOCH, New Delhi. The theme for the SKOCH Summit was ‘State of BFSI & PSUs’.
  • NMDC won the Gold Award in the category social responsibility for the project ‘Promotion of Technical Education & Skill Development in Dantewada District through NMDC ITI Bhansi’ and the Silver Award in the category digital inclusion for the ‘Project Kalpataru’ for ERP implementation. The awards were received by Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance) via video conferencing on behalf of Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Sumit Deb.
  • The SKOCH Awards were given to the winners based on the application submitted on their website, presentation to jury followed by three rounds of popular online voting and second round of jury evaluation. In addition to above, NMDC also received the 3 SKOCH – Order of Merit Awards for its exemplary efforts in ensuring seamless digitalization in Project Kalpataru, for its expansive CSR efforts in promoting technical education and skill development in the remote districts of Dantewada and “Project Safety First” in the category Response to COVID.

Australia To Host 2026 Commonwealth Games

  • The Australian state of Victoria announced Tuesday that it will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with all sporting events taking place outside of the state capital Melbourne. The state’s premier, Daniel Andrews, praised the Commonwealth Games Federation for embracing Victoria’s pitch for the international multisports event, admitting that “it’s a bit riskier than just running it in the middle of a large city”.
  • The 2026 Games will be held in four regional hubs in the towns of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, and Gippsland, each with its own athletes’ village.
  • However, the opening ceremony will be held at Australia’s largest sports stadium, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which can hold more than 100,000 spectators.

Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be honored with the first-ever Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, instituted in the memory of the veteran singer who passed away in February this year.
  • Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan informed that the award ceremony will be held on 24th of April at Mumbai’s Shanmukhanand Hall. It added that the award will be given annually to a person who has made a path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contribution to the nation and its people.
  • The organization said, Mr. Modi is an international statesman who has put India on the path of global leadership. Calling Mr. Modi an inspiration, the organization said, he is one of the greatest leaders that India has seen in its glorious history.
  • Among the other awardees will be singer Rahul Despande, who will receive the Master Deenanath Award besides three other special awardees including veteran actress Asha Parekh, actor Jackie Shroff and the Mumbai Dabbawalas, represented by Nutan Tiffin Suppliers.
  • A musical show called ‘Swarlatanjali’ will also be organized after the award ceremony featuring singers like Roop Kumar Rathod, Priyanka Barwe, and Hariharan.

First Flight Of Made In India HAL Dornier Do-228

  • First flight of Made in India HAL Dornier Do-228 flagged off from Dibrugarh in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Alliance Air became the country’s first commercial airline to fly Indian-made aircraft for civil operations. On the other hand, First Flying Training Organization for Northeastern Region will also be inaugurated at Lilabari in Assam.
  • The Events were graced by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in the presence of Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu.
  • Notably, Civil Aviation Ministry has approved providing air connectivity and Aviation Infrastructure Scheme in Northeastern Region to promote air connectivity in the States and to develop infrastructure for air connectivity in the region.
