Global Wind Report 2022
- Global Wind Report for 2022 was published by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
- GWEC was established in 2005 to provide a credible and representative forum for the entire wind energy sector at an international level.
- Key Highlights:
- Wind energy installations every year across the world must quadruple from the 94 GW (Gigawatt) installed in 2021 within this decade to meet the global climate targets.
- New installations of 93.6 GW in 2021 brought global cumulative wind energy capacity to 837 GW, a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of 12%.
- New offshore installations in 2022 are likely to decline to the 2019 / 2020 levels.
SVANidhi Se Samriddhi
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched the ‘SVANidhi Se Samriddhi’ program in additional 126 cities across 14 States/ UTs.
- Quality Council of India (QCI) is the implementing partner for the program.
- It is an additional program of PM SVANidhi, launched on 4th January 2021 in 125 cities to map the socio-economic profile of the PM SVANidhi beneficiaries and their families.
- In Phase 1, it covered approximately 35 Lakh Street vendors and their families.
- Phase 2 aims to cover 28 Lakh Street vendors and their families, with a total target of 20 Lakh scheme sanctions for FY 2022-23. The remaining cities would be gradually added to the program.
Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
- The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Or The Amritsar Massacre Of 13th April 1919 Accounts For The Gruesome Execution Of Hundreds Of Innocent People By The Gurkha British Indian Army On The Orders Of The Then Anglo-Indian Brigadier R.E.H. Dyer.
- These People Were Protesting Peacefully Against The Rowlatt Act 1919.
- General Dyer Was Killed By Sardar Udham Singh In 1940.
- Cause Was Rowlatt Act 1919: During World War I (1914-18) The British Government Of India Enacted A Series Of Repressive Emergency Powers That Were Intended To Combat Subversive Activities.
- In This Context, This Act Was Passed On The Recommendations Of The Sedition Committee Chaired By Sir Sidney Rowlatt.
- It Gave The Government Enormous Powers To Repress Political Activities And Allowed the Detention Of Political Prisoners Without Trial For Two Years.
Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya
- Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya will be a museum representing a seamless blend of the old and the new. It will integrate the erstwhile Teen Murti Bhawan designated as Block I with the newly constructed building designated as Block II. The total area of the two blocks covers about 15,600 square metres.
- The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya will tell the story of how our Prime Ministers navigated the nation through various challenges and ensured all-around progress of the nation through displays starting with the freedom struggle and the framing of the Constitution.
- The design of the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya has been inspired by the story of a rising India that was shaped and molded by the hands of its leaders. The design of the museum building includes sustainable and energy conservation practices.
- No tree was cut or transplanted during the course of work on the construction of the Sangrahalaya project.
- The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya’s logo represents the hands of the people of India holding the Dharma Chakra symbolizing the nation and democracy.
- The information required for the museum building was collected through various resources and repositories with the help of institutions including Doordarshan, Prasar Bharti, Sansad TV, Defence Ministry, Films Division and media houses and foreign news agencies.
- The museum will display personal items, gifts, memorabilia including medals, felicitations, honours, commemorative stamps, coins, etc and speeches of the Prime Ministers and different aspects of their lives and anecdotal representation of ideologies in a thematic format.
World Chagas Disease Day
- World Chagas Disease Day is celebrated on April 14 to raise awareness around Chagas disease.
- It was first celebrated on April 14, 2020, and was named after Carlos Ribeiro Justiniano Chagas, the Brazilian doctor who diagnosed the first case on April 14, 1909.
- World Chagas Disease Day was approved for creation on May 24, 2019, at the 72nd session of the World Health Assembly, and officially created at the WHA plenary on May 28, 2019.
- The proposal for a World Chagas Disease Day was instituted by the International Federation of Associations of People Affected by Chagas Disease and was supported by several health institutions, universities, research centers, organizations, and foundations.
UGC Allows To Pursue Two Degrees At The Same Time
- University Grant Commission (UGC) is going to allow students to pursue two full time degree programmes simultaneously. This was announced by UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar in a virtual meeting with media yesterday. He said, students can pursue two academic programmes simultaneously in a physical mode either from same university or different universities.
- Prof Kumar said, students can also pursue two academic programme in online mode simultaneously. He said, this will empower the students to acquire new knowledge and provide them flexibility. Prof. Jagadesh Kumar said, several component of the National Education Policy have been implemented across the country and UGC is trying to provide flexibility under the National Education Policy. The UGC Chairman said, guidelines in this regard will come into effect soon.
Mahavir Jayanthi Celebrations
- Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Is One Of The Most Important Religious Festivals In Jainism. It Celebrates The Birth Of Mahavir, The 24th And Last Tirthankara. On The Gregorian Calendar, The Holiday Occurs Either In March Or April.
- The idol of Lord Mahavir is carried out on a chariot, in a procession called rath yatra.
- On the way stavans (religious rhymes) are recited.
- Statues of Mahavir are given a ceremonial anointment called the abhisheka. During the day, most members of the Jain community engage in some sort of charitable act, prayers, pujas, and vratas. Many devotees visit temples dedicated to Mahavir to meditate and offer prayers.
- Lectures by monks and nuns are held in temples to preach the path of virtue as defined by Jainism. Donations are collected in order to promote charitable missions like saving cows from slaughter or helping to feed poor people. Ancient Jain temples across India typically see an extremely high volume of practitioners come to pay their respects and join in the celebrations.
- Ahimsa runs and rallies preaching Lord Mahavir’s message of Ahiṃsā (non-violence) are taken out on this day.
