Traditional Harvest Season Celebrated

  • The festivals of Baisakhi, Vishu, Rongali Bihu, Naba Barsha, Vaisakhadi, and Puthandu-Pirappu are celebrated in different parts of the country.
  • Vaisakhi, also pronounced Baisakhi, marks the first day of the month of Vaisakhi and is traditionally celebrated annually on 13 April as a celebration of spring harvest primarily in Northern India. Further, other Indian cultures and diaspora celebrate this festival too.
  • In his message, Vice President said, traditionally associated with the harvest season, these festivals celebrate the vitality and abundance of nature. They represent the richness and the diversity of Indian culture and are a true reflection of our civilizational values of harmonious co-existence with nature and all living things.

Dr. B R Ambedkar 131st Birth Anniversary

  • The nation celebrated the 131st birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar on 14th April 2022.
  • Dr. Ambedkar was a social reformer, jurist, economist, author, polyglot (knowing or using several languages) orator, a scholar, and thinker of comparative religions.
  • Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was born in 1891 in Mhow, Central Province (now Madhya Pradesh).
  • He is known as the Father of the Indian Constitution and was India’s first Law Minister.
  • He was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee for the new Constitution.
  • He was a well-known statesman who fought for the rights of the Dalits and other socially backward classes.
  • Since 2015 it has been observed as an official public holiday throughout India.

Sabka Vikas Maha Quiz

  • “Sabka Vikas Maha Quiz series” aims to sensitize the participants about the various government schemes and initiatives. The government has been working to ensure necessities for all citizens of the country through various programs and schemes for the holistic welfare of all citizens, especially the poor and marginalized sections of society.
  • People can participate in the quiz to showcase their knowledge about government flagship schemes.
  • Top 1000 winners will be announced per quiz and every winner will receive  2000 rupees each.

e-NAM Completes 6 Years

  • National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), a pan-India electronic trading portal has completed six years today. The flagship program integrates physical wholesale mandis and markets of different States and Union Territories to facilitate online trading of agricultural commodities. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this day in 2016, e-NAM is completely funded by the Central Government and is being implemented by the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium.
  • E-NAM platform promotes better marketing opportunities for the farmers to sell their products through an online competitive and transparent price discovery system. Farmers are free to register on the e-NAM portal and sell their produce. A total of 1000 mandis of 18 states and 3 union territories have been integrated with the e-NAM platform and more than one crore 72 lakh farmers have registered on this platform so far. The agricultural produce trade with a value of one lakh 82 thousand crore rupees has been recorded so far one-man platform.

Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the revamped Centrally-sponsored scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from the first of this month to the 31st of March 2026.
  • It will be extended to all States and Union Territories of the country. Briefing media in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, this has been done to develop the governance capabilities of Panchayati Raj Institutions. He said the decision will help achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The total outlay for this scheme is five thousand nine hundred and 11 crore rupees with a Central share of three thousand seven hundred crore rupees and the State share will be two thousand two hundred eleven crore rupees.
  • PM launched Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) in 2018, the ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ program aims to transform selected districts quickly and effectively.
  • These districts were selected on parameters like poverty, public health, nutrition, education, gender, sanitation, drinking water, and livelihood generation which are in sync with SDGs and fall within the realm of Panchayats.

Reykjavik Open Chess Tournament

  • Young Indian Grandmaster, R Pragganandhaa won the prestigious Reykjavik Open chess tournament in Reykjavik, Iceland with 7.5 points from nine rounds. The 16-year-old Pragganandhaa defeated compatriot GM D Gukesh in the final round yesterday to emerge sole winner.
  • The highly-rated Indian remained unbeaten through the nine rounds and finished with wins over Matthieu Cornette of France and Gukesh in the last two rounds.  He had recently hogged the limelight after stunning world No.1 Magnus Carlsen in an online tournament.
  • The Reykjavik Open is an annual chess tournament that takes place in the capital city of Iceland. It was held every two years up to 2008, currently it runs annually. The first edition was held in 1964.

International Gandhi Award For Leprosy, 2021

  • Venkaiah Naidu On Wednesday Conferred The International Gandhi Award For Leprosy, 2021 To Dr. Bhushan Kumar Of Chandigarh And Sahyog Kushtha Yagna Trust, Gujarat At A Function In New Delhi. The Annual Award Was Instituted By Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation.
  • The Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation (GMLF) has been working since 1951 and has acted as guide to NLFP over this time.

Rohit Sharma Score 10,000 Runs In T20

  • Rohit Sharma has became only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to score 10 thousand runs in the T20 cricket. India and Mumbai Indians skipper achieved this milestone during the IPL 2022 match of Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings in Pune last night.
  • Rohit Sharma became the seventh batter overall to reach the 10 thousand runs in T20s. West Indian legend Chris Gayle is leading the list of run-getters with 14,562 runs to his name followed by Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (11698), West Indies Kieron Pollard (11474), Australia’s Aaron Finch (10499), Virat Kohli (10379) and Australia’s David Warner (10373).
