Engineer’s Day Celebrated Across India
- Every year on 15th September, India celebrates National Engineer’s Day to recognize and honor the achievements of the great engineer Moksha Gundam Visvesvaraya.
- The day is observed to commemorate the great work of engineers and to encourage them for improvement and innovation.
- It is different from the World Engineers’ Day celebrated annually by UNESCO on 4th March.
- Born in Karnataka in 1861.
- Studied civil engineering from the College of Science in Pune.
- Served as the Chief Engineer of Mysore State in 1909 and as the Diwan of the princely state of Mysore in 1912.
- An Engineer who had planned the Indian Economy in 1934.
- He was conferred India’s highest honor, the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
- He died in 1962 in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Connect Karo 2021
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the ‘Connect Karo 2021’ – Towards Equitable, Sustainable Indian Cities’ Event.
- It is part of a global series of events that World Resources Institute (WRI) India organizes and hosts, to bring together Indian and global leaders, and other stakeholders committed towards designing inclusive, sustainable and climate forward Indian cities.
- WRI India is an independent charity, legally registered as the India Resources Trust.
‘Shoonya’ Campaign
- NITI Aayog, with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and RMI India’s support, launched Shoonya—an initiative to promote zero-pollution delivery vehicles by working with consumers and industry.
- The campaign aims to accelerate adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the urban deliveries segment and create consumer awareness about the benefits of zero-pollution delivery.
- Over 30 e-commerce, OEMs, fleet aggregators, charging infrastructure companies join hands to deliver green as part of the campaign to clean up final-mile deliveries.
Rajbhasha Keerthi Puraskar
- The highest and most prestigious award in the field of Rajbhasha i.e., “Rajbhasha Keerthi Puraskar” was presented to National Mineral Development Ltd. (NMDC), under Ministry of Steel during the Rajbhasha Diwas Samaroh in New Delhi.
- Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. (RINL) – Vishakhapatnam Steel plant (VSP), under Ministry of Steel is bestowed with ‘Rajbhasha Keerthi Puraskar’-FIRST PRIZE for effective implementation of Official Language Hindi for the year 2020-21.
Discovery of New Species of Hybodont Shark from Jurassics of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
- In a rare discovery, teeth of new species of hybodontshark of Jurassic age have been reported for the first time from Jaisalmer.
- Hybodont sharks have been reported for the first time from the Jurassic rocks (approximately, between 160 and 168 million-years-old) of the Jaisalmer region of Rajasthan.
- Hybodont, an extinct group of sharks, was a dominant group of fishes in both marine and fluvial environments during the Triassic and early Jurassic time. However, Hybodont sharks started to decline in marine environments from the Middle Jurassic onwards until they formed a relatively minor component of open-marine shark assemblages. Hybodont finally became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous time 65 million years ago.

Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Auto Industry and Drone Industry
- Government has approved Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Auto Industry and Drone Industry to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities
- PLI Auto Scheme will incentivize emergence of Advanced Automotive Technologies global supply chain in India
- Help create additional employment of over 7.6 lakh people
- Incentives worth ₹ 26,058 crore will be provided to industry over five years
- PLI Scheme for auto sector will bring fresh investments of over ₹42,500 crore in five years and incremental production of over ₹ 2.3 lakh crore
- PLI Scheme for Drones will bring fresh investments of over ₹5,000 crore in three years and incremental production of over ₹ 1,500 crore.
- Faster Adaption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) Scheme (₹10,000 crore) will give a big boost to manufacture of Electric Vehicles.
