SACRED Portal for Elderly

  • The Portal developed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is named Senior Able Citizens for Re-Employment in Dignity (SACRED), is an online employment exchange platform to cater to senior citizens seeking job opportunities.
  • The International Day of Older Persons is observed on 1st October each year.
  • Citizens above 60 years of age can register on the portal and find jobs and work opportunities.
  • The Employment Portal will serve not only the senior citizens seeking employment, but also the employers, the Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the senior citizens gaining skills, and other agencies or individuals.
  • An amount of Rs. 10 Cr would be provided for funding for the platform development along with maintenance grant of @ Rs. 2 Cr per year for 5 years.

Over 5 Crore Tap Water Connections Provided Since Announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will interact with Gram Panchayats and Pani Samitis/ Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSC) on Jal Jeevan Mission
  • On 15th August 2019, Prime Minister announced the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide clean tap water to every household. At the time of launch of the mission, only 3.23 Crore (17%) rural households had tap water supply.
  • Despite Covid-19 pandemic, in the last two years, more than 5 Crore households have been provided with tap water connections. As on date, about 8.26 Crore (43%) rural households have tap water supply in their homes. Every rural household in 78 districts, 58 thousand Gram Panchayats and 1.16 lakh villages are getting tap water supply. Till now, tap water supply has been provided in 7.72 lakh (76%) schools and 7.48 lakh (67.5%) anganwadi centres.
  • To realize Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, and following ‘bottom up’ approach, Jal Jeevan Mission is implemented in partnership with States with a budget of Rs. 3.60 lakh Crores. Further, Rs. 1.42 lakh Crore has been allocated to PRIs as a tied grant under 15th Finance Commission for water and sanitation in villages for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.

4th Annual Leadership Summit of USISPF

  • Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, (MeitY) addressed US- India Strategic Partnership Forum’s 4th Annual Leadership Summit.
  • The Summit, organized under the leadership of John Chambers, Chairman, USISPF and Dr. Mukesh Aghi, CEO & President, USISPF touched upon resilience in the face of adversity and strengthening the US-India strategic partnership through trade, commerce, diplomacy, technology and healthcare in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic.

National Pension System Diwas (NPS Diwas)

  • The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), along with all its registered intermediaries across the country, observed National Pension System Diwas (NPS Diwas) . This campaign was dedicated towards ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations and to encourage citizens to join NPS for achieving financial freedom upon retirement through pension as a regular income.
  • Total NPS & APY subscribers reaches 460.79 lakh and total Assets under management (AUM) Rs. 6,67,786 crore
  • Total no. of non-Govt NPS subscribers is about 31 lakh and the AUM is above 1 lakh crore

Lal Bahadur Shastri remembered on his Jayanthi

  • Lal Bahadur Shastri (2 October 1904 – 11 January 1966) was second Prime Minister of India.
  • He promoted the White Revolution – a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk – by supporting the Amul milk co-operative of Anand, Gujarat and creating the National Dairy Development Board.
  • Underlining the need to boost India’s food production, Shastri also promoted the Green Revolution in India in 1965. This led to an increase in food grain production, especially in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” was given by him.

Remembering the Mahatma

  • World Celebrates 152nd birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
  • Internationally, October 2 is observed as the Day of Nonviolence in remembrance of the “Mahatma.”
  • The title “Father of The Nation” was given to him by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and “Mahatma” by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

  • Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India’s independence from British rule and in turn inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
  • He undertook movements such as Non-Cooperation (1920’s), Civil Disobedience (1930’s) and Quit India (1940’s) which proved fatal for British Raj in India.
