The Earthshot Prize 2021
- Vidyut Mohan, a Delhi-based entrepreneur, won the inaugural edition of The Earthshot Prize.
- He won it for his innovative technology that recycles agricultural waste to create fuel.
- It is an award set up by Prince William and the Royal Foundation, the charity founded by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and historian David Attenborough.
- “Clean our Air” Takachar, India: A portable machine created to turn agricultural waste into fertilizer so that farmers do not burn their fields and cause air pollution.
India to host ‘Gen Next’ leaders from 75 democratic countries
- Chairman of Indian Council for Cultural Relations ICCR Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has said that as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, India will host young leaders from 75 democracies under the initiative Gen-Next Democratic Network.
- Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, Dr Sahasrabuddhe said, young leaders below the age of 35 from the ruling party, opposition party and other key parties are being invited and the first batch will include leaders from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, Indonesia, Chile and Zambia.
- He said, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the event on 25th November. Dr Sahasrabuddhe said, the objective behind the event is to give the young leaders a comprehensive idea about India’s rich democratic culture.
Indian Army wins gold medal at Cambrian Patrol Exercise in UK
- The Indian Army won a Gold Medal at the Cambrian Patrol Exercise held in the UK while competing against 96 teams representing special forces and regiments from around the world.
- The Gorkha Rifles Frontier Force represented the Indian Army at the drill held at Brecon, Wales. The event is considered the ultimate test of human endurance and team spirit and is considered the Olympics of Military Patrolling. The Indian Army team performed well in harsh terrain and inclement weather. These conditions added to the challenges of simulated situations to assess the reaction of the teams in a combat setting.
Earth Sciences Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches Air Quality Early Warning System
- Earth Sciences Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has launched Air Quality Early Warning System on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav week. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology has developed a new Decision Support System and extended the ability of the existing air quality early warning system to have decision-making capability for air quality management. He said, Air warning System integrated with the Decision Support System will become a user-friendly tool for air-quality management in and around Delhi.
- A dedicated website has been created to deliver quantitative information about the contribution of emissions from Delhi and the surrounding 19 districts to the air quality in Delhi. The website is designed to deliver quantitative information about the contribution from biomass-burning activities in the neighbouring states to the degradation of air quality in Delhi.
Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar addresses CII’s ‘Future Tech 2021’ Event
- The Minister said this during his inaugural address at the International Conference and Exhibition on Digital technologies – “Future Tech 2021” organized by the CII. The event is scheduled till 27th October and will revolve on 5 theme pillars: Strategy, Growth, Resilience, Inclusiveness and Trust. Mr Chandrasekhar also spoke about the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the industry representatives, stating that Prime Minister has set some very serious ambitions and wants India to be a significant player in the Tech Space.
- The Minister said, soon, the government is going to roll out a 5-year strategic perspective plan, detailing the competency and capabilities that need to be developed for realizing these ambitions. He stated that in the last 6 years we have made tremendous strides in digitizing the country’s economy and public services within the economy which has helped India prove to be resilient during the COVID Pandemic.
Shri Piyush Goyal Ends his Kashmir Visit
- Piyush Goyal inaugurates 250mm seer water supply project in Kashmir
- The project is aimed to benefit around 10,000 people in the Valley and will be completed within three months under the ambit of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- The minister also inaugurated a tourist hut of Pahalgam Development Authority at Golf Course, and a sapling plantation drive of Forest Departments Deodar. As many as 1 lakh saplings have been aimed to be planted as part of the drive, an official statement noted.
