World Turtle Day 2022
- Tortoises And Turtles Play An Important Role In The Ecological Design Of Earth. These Reptiles Are Known To Survive And Thrive Across A Range Of Diverse Habitats Around The Globe. In Order To Acknowledge The Importance Of These Creatures On Earth, World Turtle Day Is Celebrated On May 23.
- World Turtle Day Theme: This Year’s Theme For World Turtle Day Is “Shellebrate”. The Theme Asks “Everyone To Love And Save Turtles”.
- World Turtle Day History: There Wouldn’t Have Been Any World Turtle Day If The American Tortoise Rescue (Atr) Didn’t Start It.
- This Nonprofit Organisation Was Established In 1990 And It Started Marking World Turtle Day In 2001.
- This Is The 22nd International World Turtle Day That They Are Celebrating. The Organisation, Founded By Susan Tellem And Her Husband Marshall Thompson, Has Rescued And Re-sheltered More Than 4,000 Turtles And Tortoises.
MyGov Helpdesk On WhatsApp
- MyGov today announced that citizens will now be able to use the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp to access the Digilocker service.
- This includes creating and authenticating their Digilocker account, and downloading documents including PAN card, driving license, and vehicle registration certificate all on WhatsApp.
- The centre has been working for Ease of Living through Digital India. In this context, the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp is a major step to ensure governance and government services at the fingertips of citizens.
- MyGov Helpdesk will now offer a suite of services for integrated citizen support and efficient governance, starting with Digilocker services. The new service will enable citizens to access the following documents with ease and convenience, from the safety of their homes.
- WhatsApp users across the country can use the chatbot by simply sending ‘Namaste or Hi or Digilocker’ to the WhatsApp number 91 9013151515.
250th Birth Anniversary Of Raja Ram Mohan Roy
- Ram Mohan Roy (22 May 1772 – 27 September 1833) was an Indian reformer who was one of the founders of the Brahmo Sabha in 1828, the precursor of the Brahmo Samaj, a social-religious reform movement in the Indian subcontinent.
- He was given the title of Raja by Akbar II, the Mughal emperor. His influence was apparent in the fields of politics, public administration, education and religion. He was known for his efforts to abolish the practices of sati and child marriage.
- Roy is the “Father of the Bengal Renaissance” by many historians.
- Year-long celebrations of 250th Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy begins In Kolkata.
Govt Reduces Excise Duty On Petrol & Diesel
- The government today reduced the Central excise duty on Petrol by 8 rupees per litre and on Diesel by 6 rupees per litre. This will reduce the price of petrol by 9.5 rupees per litre and of Diesel by 7 rupees per litre. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced this in a series of tweets.
- The Minister said it will have a revenue implication of around 1 lakh crore rupees per year for the government.
- Excise duty is a form of indirect tax that is levied by the Central Government of India for the production, sale, or license of certain goods. Excise duty charges are also collected by state governments for alcohol and narcotics.
Subsidy On Gas Cylinder Under PM Ujjwala Yojana
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that this year, government will give a subsidy of 200 rupees per gas cylinder upto 12 cylinders to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This will have a revenue implication of around 6100 crore rupees a year.
- Government is also reducing the customs duty on raw materials and intermediaries for plastic products where country’s import dependence is high. This will result in reduction of cost of final products.
- Ms Sitharaman said similarly, customs duty is being calibrated on raw materials and intermediaries for iron and steel to reduce their prices. Import duty on some raw materials of steel will be reduced.
- Export duty on some steel products will be levied. She said measures are being taken up to improve the availability of Cement and through better logistics to reduce the cost of cement.
Anthony Albanese Sworn In As Australia’s New PM
- Labour Party leader Anthony Albanese was sworn in as Australia’s new Prime Minister. He was sworn in with four key Cabinet members, including new Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
- Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s centre-left Labour Party ousted predecessor Scott Morrison’s conservative coalition in Saturday’s election. The coalition had been in power under three Prime Ministers for nine years. It is Australia’s first Labour Government in almost a decade.
- Later, the Prime Minister left for Tokyo to meet the leaders of the Quad nations, the US, India and Japan. Foreign Minister Penny Wong is also travelling with him to Japan.
WHO Honors India’s ASHA Workers
- India’s one million all-women ASHA workers were awarded and honoured by WHO for their ‘outstanding’ contribution to advancing global health, demonstrated leadership and commitment to regional health issues.
- They were honoured for their crucial role in linking the community with the health system and ensuring those living in rural poverty can access primary health care services, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
- WHO has said that ASHAs worked to provide maternal care and immunization for children against vaccine-preventable diseases; community health care; treatment for hypertension and tuberculosis; and core areas of health promotion for nutrition, sanitation, and healthy living.
- The ceremony for the awards, which were established in 2019, was part of the live-streamed high-level opening session of the 75th World Health Assembly.
- The WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has announced six Global Health Leaders Awards. Dr Tedros himself decides on the awardees for the World Health Organization Director-General’s Global Health Leaders Awards.
Hockey India Sub-junior Women’s National C’ships
- Hockey Haryana emerged winners of the Hockey India sub-junior women’s national championship 2022 after defeating Hockey Jharkhand 2-0 in the final in Imphal yesterday. Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Hockey defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey 3-0 to secure third place in the tournament.

- In Football, Manchester City have been crowned 2021/22 Premier League champions their fourth title success in the last five seasons.
- Manchester City’s dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa in the final game of the season sealed the title and saw them finish one point ahead of second-place Liverpool at the end of a grueling battle for supremacy. In Manchester City’s 38 league matches this season, they have won 29, drawn six, and lost three, scoring 99 goals in the process.
