DRDO Successfully Flight Tests MRSAM
- DRDO conducted two successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 27, 2022. The flight tests were carried out as part of the live firing trials against high-speed aerial targets.
- The missiles intercepted the aerial targets and destroyed them completely, registering direct hits at both ranges. The first launch was to intercept a medium-altitude long-range target and the second launch was for proving the capability of a low altitude short-range target.
- This MRSAM version is a Surface-to-Air Missile developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel for use by the Indian Army. The MRSAM Army weapon system comprises multi-function radar, mobile launcher system, and other vehicles.
MOD Approves 21 New Sainik Schools 2022-23
- Ministry of Defence has approved setting up of 21 new Sainik Schools, in partnership with NGOs/private schools/State Governments. These schools will be set up in the initial round of the Government’s initiative of setting up 100 new Sainik schools across the country in partnership mode. They will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools.
- The objectives behind Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools is to provide quality education to the students in tune with National Education Policy and give them better career opportunities, including joining the Armed Forces.
- State/UT-wise list of21 approved new Sainik Schools is annexed and can also be seen at https://sainikschool.ncog.gov.in/. 17 of these Schools are Brownfield running schools and 4 are Greenfield schools to be operational shortly. While NGOs/ Trusts /Societies have a share of 12 approved new schools, 6 private schools, and 3 State Government owned schools find a place in the list of such approved new Sainik Schools. Unlike existing Sainik Schools which are purely residential in nature,7 new Sainik Schools are Day schools and 14 such new approved schools have residential arrangements.
VISIT OF UAE DELEGATION TO INDIAN ARMY TRAINING ESTABLISHMENT
- A visit of the UAE Army delegation to India as part of Army to Army, Staff Talks concluded on 26 March 2022. The visit was scheduled from 21 to 26 March 2022. The Talks were organised by the College of Military Engineering under the aegis of Hq Southern Command at Pune with an aim to foster better coordination b/w militaries.
- Both countries discussed agenda points focusing on key issues related to training and conduct of bilateral and multilateral exercises. The delegation carried out mutual exchange of ideas and experiences on training and witnessed the new age equipment’s and methodology of conduct of training at these premier institutes.
SOUTHWESTERN COMMAND INVESTITURE CEREMONY
- The South-Western Command Investiture Ceremony was conducted at 61 Cavalry Polo Ground, Jaipur Military Station on 26 Mar 2022. A total of 14 Sena Medals (Gallantry), one Yudh Seva Medal, 04 Sena Medal (Distinguished), and 05 Vishisht Seva Medals were presented by Lieutenant General AS Bhinder GOC, South-Western Command.
- The Investiture Ceremony is conducted once a year to confer various awards to personnel who have distinguished themselves by acts of individual gallantry and exceptional devotion to duty. The awardees included 15 officers, 03 Junior Commissioned Officers and 06 Other Ranks. Two gallantry awards were presented posthumously to the Next of Kins Mrs. Gurdeep Kaur w/o Naib Subedar Mandip Singh, SM (Posthumously) and Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur w/o Naib Subedar Satnam Singh, SM, (Posthumously). The Army Commander also conferred citations to 15 units of the Southwestern Command for their exemplary performance.
LRMR Air Squadron INAS 316 To Be Commissioned At INS Hansa
- Indian Navy’s new long-range maritime reconnaissance (LRMR) air squadron INAS 316 to be commissioned at INS Hansa, Goa on 29Mar 22.
- Nicknamed ‘The Condors’, INAS 316 will operate the potent LRMR P-8I aircraft

- INS Hansa is an Indian naval air station located near Dabolim in Goa, India.[1] It is India’s biggest naval airbase. The military airbase has a civil enclave, that operates as Dabolim Airport.
- INS Hansa was commissioned on 5 September 1961 at Sulur near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It was initially co-located with the Sulur Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force.
‘High Tea’ was hosted by Indian Navy
- On the occasion of Bangladesh National Day, ‘High Tea’ was hosted by VAdm Puneet K Bahl, Commandant, Indian Naval Academy on 26Mar 22, for Bangladesh cadets undergoing four-year B Tech training at the academy.
- The Independence Day of Bangladesh taking place on 26 March, is a national holiday. It commemorates the country’s declaration of independence from Pakistan in the early hours of 26 March 1971.
INS Sharda Delivers Critical Spares to Sri Lankan Navy
- INS Sharda delivers critical spares to Sri Lanka Navy & Coast Guard.
- Deployed to Colombo 23-25 Mar 22, the Indian Navy warship also carried an indigenously built Advanced Light Helicopter ALH for undertaking training of personnel on flying ops.
- Indian Navy Ship Sharda entered Colombo harbour with the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) embarked onboard, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said in a statement.
- The efforts of the Indian Navy are in keeping with its core ideology of ‘Bridges of Friendship’, towards strengthening its relations with friendly neighbours, it stated further.

- On 27 March 2019 DRDO Conducted the successful trial of powerful India’s Strategic Weapon Shakti.
- On March 27th, India completed its first successful attempt at shooting a satellite in lower earth orbit (LEO). In doing so, India has become the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to acquire the capability of space warfare.
- What is Mission Shakti and ASAT Missile?
- Mission Shakti was undertaken to develop highly-potent Anti-satellite weapons (ASAT). It is a joint programme of the DRDO & the ISRO. Anti-satellite (ASAT) System is missile-based system to attack moving satellites.

- Asserting that defence cooperation is another key pillar of the India-Maldives partnership, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said that the ties between both nations are full of promises and possibilities for their youth and future generations.

BRO Opens Manali- Sarchu Road A Month Ahead of Schedule
- In another breakthrough of opening up of passes in the North-Western border areas, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) opened up the 210 km long Manali- Sarchu road on NH 1D in Himachal Pradesh.
- During the Winter season, the road normally remains closed for over 160-180 days in a year, but this time Project Deepak of BRO has opened the road in 117 days, as the last convoy had moved on November 29, 2021.
- Opening the Manali-Sarchu Road was premised on the successful conduct of snow clearance operations over one of the highest passes of the Zanskar Range, the formidable Baralacha La Pass (16,043 feet). The BRO adopted a two-prong approach, with the simultaneous deployment of snow clearance teams from two sides, one from Patsio to Baralacha La and the second from Sarchu to Baralacha La.
