DCGI Approves Restricted Emergency Use Of Covaxin

  • Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given restricted emergency use authorization to Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children
  • The approval has been given for the children between the age of six to twelve years. It has also granted emergency use authorization to Corbevax for those aged between five to twelve years.
  • In a tweet, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said, the DCGI has also granted emergency use authorization to ZycovD­­­ for children above the age of 12 years for a two-dose regime.

AAHAR 2022

  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in association with the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) is organizing Asia’s biggest international food and hospitality fair AAHAR-2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The fair will commence today.
  • Commerce and Industry Ministry said, more than 80 exporters from different segments of agricultural products which include geographical indication products, processed food, organic, and frozen food products will participate in the fair. APEDA has created dedicated stalls for exporters from the North East Region and Himalayan states like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, women entrepreneurs, Farmer Producers Organizations, Start-Ups, and exporters of millets.

Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur today launched ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan’, a short video collection in collaboration with Netflix India.
  • It is a series of inspiring short stories about seven Indian women who did something unthinkable, extraordinary, and out of the box for India. 
  • The Minister felicitated the inspiring Indian women who got featured in  Netflix India’s ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan’ series. In the video an environmentalist and Padma Awardee, Basanti Devi has been featured. She is credited for raising awareness campaigns and saving the Kosi river from drying up in Uttarakhand.
  • Another woman featured in the short videos is Anshu Jamsenpa. She is a mountaineer and the first woman in the world to scale the summit of Mount Everest twice in a season and the fastest double summitter to do so within five days.
  • Featured in the short videos, Harshini Kanhekar is the first woman firefighter in India to join the list of women being recognized and honored under the ‘Bharat Ki Lakshmi’ campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

90th Anniversary Of Sivagiri Pilgrimage

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the inaugural ceremony of the year-long joint celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Sivagiri Pilgrimage and the Golden Jubilee of Brahma Vidyalaya today.
  • Launching the logo for year-long joint celebrations, Modi expressed his happiness on receiving saints in his house. He recalled meeting Sivagiri Mutt saints and devotees over the years and how he always felt energized by the interaction.
  • Both Sivagiri Pilgrimage and Brahma Vidyalaya were started with the guidance of social reformer Narayana Guru.
  • Sivagiri Pilgrimage is held every year for three days from 30 December to 1 January at Sivagiri, Thiruvananthapuram. According to Narayana Guru, the aim of pilgrimage should be the creation of comprehensive knowledge among the people and the pilgrimage should help in their overall development and prosperity. The pilgrimage started with a handful of devotees in 1933 but now has become one of the major events in South India.

TIMS Super Speciality Hospitals

  • Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for three Telangana Institutes of Medical Sciences (TIMS) Super-speciality Hospitals in Hyderabad today. The State Government has taken up construction of these three hospitals at L.B. Nagar, Sanath Nagar, and Alwal at a cost of two thousand 678 crore rupees.
  • These hospitals have been proposed in line with the AIMS hospital in Delhi with free super specialty medical services to the poor. These hospitals are also proposed to offer specialized Medical Education besides courses in Nursing and Para-Medical sectors.
  • There will be a bed strength of 1,000. All specialty and super-specialty services would be provided at the hospitals. Nursing and para-medical courses would be offered. Each hospital will have 13 lakh square feet area and will have a 1,000-bed capacity.

Elon Musk Acquires Twitter In 44 Billion Dollar Deal

  • Twitter has announced to sell its social media company to the world’s richest man Elon Musk, in a 44-billion-dollar deal.
  • The company said its board has accepted an offer from the billionaire to buy Twitter. Chair of Twitter’s board Bret Taylor said the Twitter Board conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive process to assess Mr. Musk’s proposal with a deliberate focus on value, certainty, and financing. The proposed transaction will deliver a substantial cash premium, and we believe it is the best path forward for Twitter’s stockholders, he added.
  • Under the terms of the deal, shareholders will receive 54.20 dollars in cash for each share of Twitter stock they own, matching Mr. Musk’s original offer and marking a 38% premium over the stock price the day before he revealed his stake in the company.
  • The deal comes just four days after Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk unveiled a financing package to back the acquisition.

24th Summer Deaflympics To Be Held In Brazil

  • The 24th Summer Deaflympics will be held in Brazil’s Caxias Du Sul from 1st to 15th of May.
  • In all, 39 men and 26 women have been selected to represent India along with 12 coaches, eight support staff, and 12 officials.
  • Speaking to the media during the send-off ceremony for Deaflympics-bound athletes, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur expressed hope that the athletes will bring laurels to India.
  • this is the largest contingent going to Deaflympics from India.
  • The Deaflympics is also known as Deaflympiad are a periodic series of multi-sport events sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee at which Deaf athletes compete at an elite level.
  • Unlike the athletes in other IOC-sanctioned events, athletes cannot be guided by sounds.

Women’s T20 Challenge 2022

  • The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 will be held at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium between May 24 and 28.
  • The scheduling decision was made following an apex council meeting of the BCCI yesterday. 
  • The tournament will remain a three-team affair with Supernovas, Trailblazers, and Velocity participating.
  • Supernovas have won the title twice, while IPL Trailblazers are the defending champions.
  • The other side, IPL Velocity, was the runner-up in 2019
  • Women’s T20 Challenge has been an annual tournament that began in 2018 but was not held in 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
