K. R. Narayanan Remembered on his Birth Anniversary

  • Kocheril Raman Narayanan (27 October 1920 – 9 November 2005) was an Indian statesman, diplomat, academician, and politician who served as the tenth president of India (1997–2002) and ninth vice president of India (1992–1997).
  • He entered politics at Indira Gandhi’s request and won three successive general elections to the Lok Sabha and served as a Minister of State in Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet. Elected as vice president in 1992, Narayanan went on to become president in 1997. He was the first person from the Dalit community to hold either post.

Krishi UDAN 2.0

  • Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia releases Krishi UDAN 2.0
  • Krishi UDAN 2.0 lays out the vision of improving value realization through better integration and optimization of Agri-harvesting and air transportation and contributing to Agri-value chain sustainability and resilience under different and dynamic conditions.
  • The scheme proposes to facilitating and incentivizing movement of Agri-produce by air transportation.
  • Key Highlights of KRISHI UDAN 2.0:
  • Facilitating and incentivizing movement of Agri-produce by air transportation: Full waiver of Landing, Parking, TNLC and RNFC charges for Indian freighters and P2C at selected Airports of Airport Authority of India. Primarily, focusing on NER, Hilly and tribal regions.
  • Strengthening cargo related infrastructure at airports and off airports: Facilitating the development of a hub and spoke model and a freight grid. Airside transit and transshipment infrastructure will be created at Bagdogra and Guwahati airports, and at Leh, Srinagar, Nagpur, Nashik, Ranchi, and Raipur airports as a part of focus on NER, Tribal and Hilly Districts.
  • Concessions sought from other bodies: Seek support and encourage States to reduce Sales Tax to 1% on ATF for freighters / P2C aircraft as extended in UDAN flights.
  • Resources-Pooling through establishing Convergence mechanism: Collaboration with other government departments and regulatory bodies to provide freight forwarder, airlines and other stakeholders with Incentives and concessions to enhance air transportation of Agri-produce.
  • Technological convergence: Development of E-KUSHAL (Krishi UDAN for Sustainable Holistic Agri-Logistics). Platform to be developed facilitate in information dissemination to all the stakeholders. Furthermore, integration of E-KUSHAL with National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) is proposed.
  • Total 53 airports are select for the first phase of Krishi UDAN 2.0. – the majority of them are operated by AAI.
  • The strategic selection of the airports is primarily focused on northeast region. Additionally covers North, entire western coast and southern India (including two islands).
  • Airports for implementation of KrishiUdan 2.0 are selected with the aim of providing benefit to the entire country Opted airports not only provide access to regional domestic market but also connects them to international gateways of the country.
  • Development of E-KUSHAL (Krishi Udaan for Sustainable Holistic Agri-Logistics). Proposed to develop a platform which will facilitate in information dissemination to all the stakeholders. This will be a single platform which will provide relevant information at the same time will also assist in coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the scheme. Proposed convergence of E-Kushal with National Agriculture Market (e-NAM).
  • Facilitating the development of a hub and spoke model and a freight grid (identified locations for cargo terminals)

INDIAN ARMY CELEBRATES 75TH INFANTRY DAY

  • The 75th Infantry Day to commemorate the contributions of Infantry, the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army was celebrated on 27 October 2021. This day has a unique significance for the Nation, as it was on this day in 1947 that Infantrymen from Indian Army, led by 1 SIKH, landed at Srinagar Airfield and saved the State of J&K from a ruthless and treacherous Pakistani invasion. The Infantry since time immemorial has displayed fortitude, indomitable resoluteness, and dogged determination all through its chequered history. The fighting spirit of Indian Army’s versatile ‘Infantry’ has always been appreciated by all over the world.
  • As part of the Infantry Day celebrations, a ‘Wreath Laying’ ceremony was held at National War Memorial to honour the fallen heroes of the Infantry, who made the supreme sacrifice on various battlefields in service of the Nation. General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff, Colonels of the Infantry Regiments and other senior officers laid wreaths on this solemn occasion. Three decorated veterans of Indo Pak War 1971, namely Major RK Arora, VrC (Retired), Subedar (Hony Lt) Nand Ram, VrC (Retired) and Grenadier (HonyNk) Amrit, VrC (Retired) also laid wreaths on behalf of veterans of the Infantry.

Four Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme

  • Ministry of Education notifies the Four Year ITEP, a dual-major holistic bachelor’s degree offering B.A. B.Ed./ B. Sc. B. Ed. and BCom. B.Ed. which is one of the major mandates of the National Education Policy 2020 related to Teacher Education.
  • As per the NEP, 2020, teacher engagement from the year 2030 onwards will be only through ITEP.
  • It will be offered in pilot mode initially in about 50 selected multidisciplinary institutions across the country.
  • National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under Ministry of Education has devised the curriculum of this course in such a way that it enables a student-teacher to get a degree in education as well as a specialised discipline such as history, mathematics, science, arts, economics, or commerce. ITEP will not only impart cutting-edge pedagogy but will also establish a foundation in early childhood care and education (ECCE), foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, and an understanding of India and its values/ethos/art/traditions, among others.

SAMBHAV – 2021

  • The mass outreach program will be a one-month long initiative under the Ministry of MSME in which students from different colleges/ITIs from all parts of the country will be encouraged by 130 field offices of the Ministry to take up entrepreneurship.
  • During the campaign, the college students will be made aware of the various schemes being implemented by the Ministry of MSME through Audio/Video film presentations.
  • Awareness programs will be conducted in more than 1,300 colleges across the country in which 1,50,000 students are expected to participate.

16th East Asia Summit

  • The East Asia Summit is the premier leaders-led forum in the Indo-Pacific. Since its inception in 2005, it has played a significant role in the strategic and geopolitical evolution of East Asia. Apart from the 10 ASEAN member states, East Asia Summit includes India, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, United States and Russia.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th East Asia Summit to be held virtually.

I&B ministry advises media organisations to display ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ logo

  • Information and Broadcasting ministry has issued an advisory to all print, electronic media, digital media, and private TV channels to display the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav logo during news programmes, reports, and bulletins. In a letter to all newspapers and channels, the ministry said, country-wide celebrations are being undertaken under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign to commemorate the completion of 75 years of India’s Independence. The campaign celebrates the glorious history of the country’s freedom struggle and journey of socio-cultural, political, and economic progress over the last 75 years. The Amrit Mahotsav commenced on March 12 this year will end on 15″ August 2023.
