COAS PROCEEDS ON A VISIT TO SINGAPORE
- Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane left for Singapore on Sunday on a three-day visit to explore ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation. The Army said Gen. Naravane will hold talks with the senior military and civilian leadership of Singapore during his visit from April 4 to April 6.
- The Army chief will also visit a number of military installations in Singapore.
- “The Army Chief is scheduled to call on the Minister of Defence, Chief of Singapore Army and other senior dignitaries where he will discuss avenues for enhancing India-Singapore defence relations”.
- “The COAS will also visit the Infantry Gunnery Tactical Simulation and Wargame Centre, Regional HADR Coordination Centre, Info Fusion Centre and the Changi Naval Base,” the Army said.
AMC CELEBRATES ITS 258TH RAISING DAY
- The Indian Army celebrated 258th Raising Day of Army Medical Corps on 3 April 2022. The Corps has the motto of “Sarve Santu Niramaya” meaning “Let all be free from disease and disability”.
- It has excelled in providing both peacetime and combat health care to the defence forces, medical services to UN peacekeeping forces in foreign missions, and during disaster management to civil authorities.
- It has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID for the past two years and has done selfless & outstanding service to the Nation.
- To commemorate 258th anniversary of Army Medical Corps AMC, a motorcycle rally was flagged off by DGAFMS, from National War Memorial NWM. The expedition will visit 75 Medical establishments in far flung areas to motivate doctors & paramedics.
- The Indian Army Medical Corps is a specialist corps in the Indian Army which primarily provides medical services to all Army personnel, serving and veterans, along with their families.
INDIAN NAVY’S ANNUAL REFIT CONFERENCE
- Indian Navy’s Annual Refit Conference and Annual Infrastructure & Indigenisation Conference for the year 2022 was inaugurated by Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SNC at Hq, Kochi.
- In consonance with the Government initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat, this year’s conferences had a session dedicated to indigenisation. The Chief of Materiel in his address to the forum emphasised the need to bolster public private relationship in the defence sector.
- Deliberations on refit processes, discussions on transforming maintenance policies to keep ships ready for any challenges and review of infrastructure augmentation for meeting growing requirements of the Navy, were the main agenda of the conference.
Ahead Of Summer, Top IAF, Army Brass To Assess China Border Situation
- Top brass of the Indian Army and Air Force would be assessing their preparedness and infrastructure requirements along the Line of Actual Control as the militaries of both India & China continue to remain in a standoff position in eastern Ladakh.
- The Indian Air Force brass would be meeting this week from April 6 to discuss the security situation including air operations along the northern borders.
- The Indian Army commanders led by COAS would be assessing the present deployments along with the eastern Ladakh and northeastern sectors from April 18 onwards in the bi-annual commanders’ conference.
- The top brass of the Indian Army had jointly discussed the infrastructure requirements and developments required by the Indian side from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh during a conference in Lucknow recently.
- Indian security establishment led by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has been of the view that the issue would be resolved only if the Chinese did complete disengagement and went back to pre-April 2020 positions.
Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team Carries Out Flying Display In Hyderabad
- Surya Kiran aerobatic team of the IAF on Friday carried out a flying display in Hyderabad.
- The team will have their final aerobatic display of the 2021-22 season in Hakimpet on April 3, the Press Information Bureau.
- Surya Kiran aerobatic team, popularly known as the Ambassadors of the IAF, has the distinction of being among a handful of nine aircraft formation aerobatic teams in the world
- The team whose motto is ‘Sadaiv Sarvottam’ (Always the Best) will also be doing a flypast in the skies of Hyderabad on April 2.
- They fly the Hawk Mk132 aircraft, licence manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
108th Birth Anniversary of Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw
- Indian Army pays tribute to Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC, on his 108th Birth Anniversary. The charismatic & inspiring leader led the Indian Army as COAS, to one of the most decisive victory in World History.
- Born on 3 April 1914 in Amritsar, Sam Manekshaw studied medicine for some time and then went against his father and enrolled in the Indian Military Academy in July 1932.
- After two years, he joined the 4/12 Frontier Force Regiment. He had to join the war at an early age. According to media reports, during World War II, 7 bullets were fired into Sam’s body.
Here are some fascinating things you should be aware of:
- Manekshaw enrolled at the Indian Military Academy to defy his father, who refused to send him to London to study.
- Manekshaw was chosen as a member of the first batch of cadets known as “The Pioneers.”
- During his time at the Indian Military Academy, he demonstrated his wit and went on to achieve a number of firsts, including becoming the first graduate to join one of the Gorkha regiments, the first to serve as Chief of the Army Staff of India, and the first to acquire the rank of field marshal.
- During the 1947 partition, Sam Manekshaw was active in providing administrative solutions and making decisions. Furthermore, he distinguished himself as a combatant during the Jammu and Kashmir operations in 1947 and 1948.
- Manekshaw served in the Army for 40 years, fighting in five wars: World War II, the India-Pakistan conflict of 1947, the Sino-Indian war of 1962, the India-Pakistan war of 1965, and the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
- “If a man says he is not terrified of death, he is either lying or a Gorkha,” he once said. It is one of his famous quotes.
- Manekshaw, 94, died of pneumonia complications in the Military Hospital in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, on June 27, 2008, at 12:30 a.m. His last words, according to reports, were “I’m okay!”

- Southern Command is a formation of the Indian Army, active since 1895. Lieutenant General Jai Singh Nain is the current Southern Army Commander.

UN Pre-deployment Course
- On the occasion of Bangladesh National Day, ‘High Tea’ was hosted by VAdm Puneet K Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping CUNPK conducted a UN pre-deployment course aimed at training potential peacekeepers in nuances of peacekeeping operation.
- The course was attended by 18 Foreign officers & 12 Indian Army officers., Commandant, Indian Naval Academy on 26Mar 22, for Bangladesh cadets undergoing four-year B Tech training at the academy.
- Peacekeeping by the United Nations is a role held by the Department of Peace Operations as an “instrument developed by the organization as a way to help countries torn by conflict to create the conditions for lasting peace”.[2] It is distinguished from peacebuilding, peacemaking, and peace enforcement although the United Nations does acknowledge that all activities are “mutually reinforcing” and that overlap between them is frequent in practice.
