One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG)

  • India and the UK are likely to announce a joint declaration on “one sun, one world, one grid” – or OSOWOG at the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP26).
  • The UN Climate Change Conference, or COP26, is scheduled to be held between 31st October and 12th November in Scotland.
  • The concept of OSOWOG is what the British have called a green grid.
  • The idea behind the concept is a trans-national electricity grid supplying solar power across the globe.

Healthgiri Awards 21

  • The India Today Healthgiri Awards 2021 were presented in Delhi on Gandhi Jayanti to salute the invincible spirit of corona warriors who have led the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • The Healthgiri Awards 2020 is the reincarnated version of the India Today Safaigiri Awards, held annually on October 2.
  • The India Today Healthgiri Awards were given away by Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, and Aroon Purie, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group.

Mitra Shakti

  • The 8th Edition of India – Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ will be conducted in Sri Lanka from 4th to 15th of October this year. An all arms contingent of 120 personnel of the Indian Army will participate in the exercise along with a battalion of the Sri Lankan Army.
  • Defence Ministry said, the aim of the exercise is to promote close relations between Armies of both countries and enhance inter-operability and sharing best practices in counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations.
  • The exercise will involve tactical level operations at sub-unit level in an international counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism environment and will go a long way in further strengthening the relationship between both the South Asian Nations.
  • This will also act as a catalyst in bringing synergy and cooperation at grass root level between both Armies.

NITI Aayog to felicitate 75 Women Achievers

  • To celebrate the 75th year of independence, NITI Aayog’s flagship initiative, the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) will felicitate 75 women achievers as part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebration. In its fifth year since inception, Women Transforming India Awards WTI 2021 will celebrate the contribution of women entrepreneurs towards Sashakt aur Samarath Bharat – by building self-sufficient businesses and overcoming challenges via unique business solutions.
  • The WTI Awards is NITI Aayog’s endeavour to recognise and celebrate stories of exceptional women change-makers from across India. Since 2018, the WTI Awards have been hosted under the aegis of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform with a focus on ‘Women and Entrepreneurship’. The awards continue to bring to the fore, inspiring female role models charting impact across the country. This year, the WTI Awards are being launched in partnership with the UN, CISCO CSR, FICCI, and Grant Thornton Bharat. The application form is available on wep.gov.in and applications will be accepted till 31st December 2021.

North Korea Test-fired New Anti-Aircraft Missile

  • North Korea said, it test-fired a new anti-aircraft missile yesterday, its fourth weapons test in under a month. The latest test comes days after North Korea launched a new hypersonic missile which is believed to have nuclear capabilities. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, the tests create greater prospects for instability and insecurity.
  • While Pyongyang said, its weapons are needed for self-defence, accusing the US and South Korea of double standards. The latest tests are being seen as a clear sign that Pyongyang has no intentions on slowing down its weapons development despite strict sanctions. According to State news outlet KCNA, the new anti-aircraft missile showed remarkable combat performance and also included new key technologies.
  • The test came a day after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un extended a conditional olive branch towards the South, saying he wanted to restore a vital communication hotline between them.

World’s largest Khadi National Flag unveiled in Leh

  • Marking the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi along with the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R. K Mathur unveiled the monumental National Flag at an event organized by Fire Fury Corps, Indian Army today at Leh.
  • The world’s largest Khadi national flag prepared by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) weighing 1000 kgs (approx.) measures 225 feet long and 150 feet wide.
  • Around 79 Khadi artisans were actively involved in making the flag which took almost 49 days to complete. Upon completion of work, the flag was later handed over to the Indian Army. Keeping with the compliance of the Flag Code of India, the Army has prepared a frame to display the flag so that it does not touch the ground.

Kamdhenu Deepawali 2021 Campaign Launched

  • Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog (RKA) has started a nation-wide campaign to celebrate Kamdhenu Deepawali Abhiyan on Diwali.
  • Through this campaign, the RKA is promoting extensive use of cow-dung and products during this Diwali Festival.
  • RKA aims at reaching 11 crore families to ignite 33 crore Diyas made of cow-dung during this year’s Deepawali festival.
