10th World Hearing Day

  • World Hearing Day is a campaign held each year by the Office of Prevention of Blindness and Deafness of the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Activities take place across the globe and an event is hosted at the World Health Organization on March 3.
  • The campaign’s objectives are to share information and promote actions towards the prevention of hearing loss and improved hearing care. The first event was held in 2007. Before 2016 it was known as International Ear Care Day.
  • Each year, the WHO selects a theme, develops educational materials and makes these freely available in several languages. It also coordinates and reports on events around the globe.

7th National Conference On Economics Of Competition Law

  • Competition Commission of India will hold the 7th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law on 4th March in virtual mode.
  • CCI has been organizing the conference every year since 2016. Neelkanth Mishra, who is a Member of, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister will deliver the keynote address in the inaugural session. The Plenary at this year’s conference is on the topic ‘Reforms and Deepening of Markets’.
  • The Conference is an endeavor to develop and sustain interest in the Economics of Competition Law and create a critical mass of antitrust economists. It brings together scholars, practitioners, academicians, and experts working in the area of economics of competition law.

Govt Notifies Rules For Vehicles

  • Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification for the validity of fitness certificate and registration mark of the motor vehicle to be exhibited on the vehicles in the manner as prescribed in the draft rules.
  • In the case of heavy goods and passenger vehicles, medium goods vehicles, and light motor vehicles, it shall be exhibited on the upper edge of the left side of the windscreen. In the case of auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw, e-cart, and quadricycle, it shall be exhibited on the upper edge of the left side of the windscreen, if fitted. In the case of the Motorcycle, it shall be exhibited on the conspicuous part of the vehicle. This shall be displayed in yellow color on blue background in Type Arial Bold Script.

17000 Indian Nationals Leave Ukraine Border

  • There has been a sharp increase in the number of Indians who have left Ukraine. Briefing media in New Delhi, MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, nearly 17,000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine’s borders since the advisories were issued. He said, it includes some Indians who have not registered with the Embassy earlier.
  • Mr Bagchi said, flights under Operation Ganga have also increased sharply. He added, during the last 24 hours six flights have landed in India taking the total number of flights that have landed in India to 15 and the total number of Indians who have returned on these flights to three thousand 352. The Spokesperson said, as many as 15 flights are scheduled over the next 24 hours.

WB Announces Humanitarian Aid For Afghanistan

  • The World Bank on has announced more than $1 billion in humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, An agency report said that the money will go to UN agencies and international NGOs while remaining “outside the control” of the country’s Taliban rulers.
  • The reallocation from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) follows the $280 million in ARTF funds disbursed last December, and is aimed at supporting the humanitarian response over the critical winter months. The funds, to be delivered in the form of grants, aim “to support the delivery of essential basic services, protect vulnerable Afghans, help preserve human capital and key economic and social services and reduce the need for humanitarian assistance in the future,” the Washington-based lender said in a statement.
  • ARTF is a multi-donor fund that coordinates international aid to improve the lives of millions of Afghans. It is administered by the World Bank on behalf of donor partners.
  • Because the World Bank is unable to provide money directly to the Taliban regime– which is not recognized by the international community.

5th Session Of United Nations Environment Assembly

  • Fifth UN Environment Assembly concluded with 14 resolutions to strengthen actions for nature to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The overall theme for UNEA-5 was “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”, which was hosted by the UN Environment Programme.
  • The Assembly will be followed by “UNEP@50”, a two-day Special Session of the Assembly marking UNEP’s 50 anniversary where member states are expected to address how to build a resilient and inclusive post-pandemic world, as well as to endorse a draft Political Declaration.
  • Resolution to end Plastic Pollution:
  • The world’s ministers for the environment agreed to establish an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) with the mandate to forge an international legally binding agreement to end plastic pollution.
  • INC will begin its work in 2022, with the ambition of completing a draft global legally binding agreement by the end of 2024.
  • This development is considered the most important environmental deal since the 2015 Paris Agreement.
  • Under the legally binding agreement, countries will be expected to develop, implement and update national action plans reflecting country-driven approaches to contribute to the objectives of the instrument.
  • They will be expected to promote national action plans to work towards the prevention, reduction and elimination of plastic pollution and to support regional and international cooperation.
