PM  Modi Visits Kedarnath

Grand Challenge on “Most Profitable 3D Printing Business”

  • Centre of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing (CoE AM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has invited applications for a Grand Challenge for “Most Profitable 3D printing Business”. Last Day for submission of applications is 6th November 2021.
  • In India, toy manufacturing is heavily dependent on various technologies of moulding and the capital cost of machinery, material cost, manpower cost is making India under competitive in the Indian market. 3D printing is an alternative viable next-generation technology with many advantages over moulding technologies such as no recurring mould cost, better market resilience, lower capital cost per machine etc. Therefore, to accelerate the economically viable technology development, CoEAM is introducing a Grand Challenge for the most profitable business case for digital toys using 3D printing.

India to host Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan on November 10

  • India will be hosting the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan on the 10th of November. The meeting will be at the NSA level and NSA Ajit Doval will chair it. Two earlier meetings in this format have been held in Iran in September 2018 and December 2019. The third meeting in India could not be held earlier due to the pandemic.
  • There has been an overwhelming response to India’s invitation. Central Asian countries as well as Russia and Iran have confirmed participation. This is the first time that all Central Asian countries, not just Afghanistan’s immediate land neighbours, are participating in this format). The enthusiastic response is a manifestation of the importance attached to India’s role in regional efforts to promote peace and security in Afghanistan. Sources said invitations have been extended to China and Pakistan too, and formal responses are awaited. However, Pakistan has indicated through the media that it will not attend.

Govt cuts basic duty on crude palm oil, crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil

  • The government has cut the basic duty on crude palm oil, crude soyabean oil, and crude sunflower oil from 2.5 percent to nil in a bid to reign in a continuous rise in the cooking oil prices for the past year. The Agri-cess on these Oils has been brought down from 20 percent to 7.5 percent for crude palm oil and 5 percent for crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil.
  • Consequent to the above reduction, the total duty is 7.5 percent for crude palm oil and 5 percent for crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil. The basic duty on RBD Palmolein Oil, Refined Soyabean and Refined Sunflower Oil has been slashed to 17.5 percent from the current 32.5 percent.
  • Before reduction, the agricultural infrastructure cess on all forms of crude edible oils was 20 percent. Post reduction, the effective duty on crude palm oil will be 8.25 percent, crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil will be 5.5 percent each.

Tarlochan Singh to be conferred with Padma Bhushan

  • Former President Giani Zail Singh’s Press Secretary Tarlochan Singh will be conferred with India’s third highest civilian award Padma Bhushan on November 9th .
  • Born on July 28, 1933, in Jhelum, now in Pakistan, Tarlochan Singh has vast administrative experience having served in various capacities in Punjab and Central governments.
  • Tarlochan Singh was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2004. He has also served as the Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities (with the status of Union Cabinet Minister from 2003-06).
  • He served as Press Secretary to the President of India from 1983 to 1987.

Three-day Goa Maritime Conclave to Begin

  • The third edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC)-2021 is being held from November 7 to 9, 2021, under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa, said an Indian navy press release.
  • The GMC is the Indian Navy’s Outreach Initiative providing a multinational platform to harness the collective wisdom of practitioners of maritime security and the academia towards garnering outcome-oriented maritime thought. GMC-21 would build upon the working level deliberations of the Goa Maritime Symposium-21 held earlier in May this year, as the Sherpa event for the Conclave, added the press release.
  • The theme for this year’s edition of GMC is “Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for Proactive Role for IOR Navies”, which has been derived keeping in mind the necessity of ‘winning everyday peace’ in the maritime domain. At the GMC-21, Adm Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff of Indian Navy would be hosting Chiefs of Navies/ Heads of Maritime Forces from 12 Indian Ocean littorals, including Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The Defence Secretary and Foreign Secretary would be delivering the Conclave Address and Keynote Address of the GMC-21, as per the navy press statement.
