On the occasion of the 76th Territorial Army (TA) Day, a significant ceremony was held to honor the contributions and achievements of the Territorial Army in India. General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), awarded the esteemed Chief of the Army Staff Silver Trophy to the 116 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) PARA, recognizing it as the Best Infantry Battalion of the Territorial Army. This accolade serves to highlight the outstanding operational performance, discipline, and commitment of the battalion to national security, whether in peacetime or active operational scenarios.
The Territorial Army, often called the “Citizen’s Army,” plays a crucial role in supporting the regular Army, particularly during instances of natural disasters, internal security challenges, and various operational duties. The recognition of the 116 Infantry Battalion (TA) PARA reflects the high standards of training, readiness, and dedication upheld by its officers and soldiers.
In addition to this recognition, General Dwivedi also celebrated the winners of the ‘Terrier Cyber Quest,’ a national-level Cyber Challenge that attracted a large number of participants from all over India. This year’s event saw participation from over 6,300 teams and 10,000 individuals, spanning various sectors, including academic institutions, industry, and the Defence Forces.
The Cyber Quest featured two primary segments: ‘Bug Hunt’ and ‘Datathon,’ aimed at unearthing and promoting young talent in the fields of cybersecurity and data analytics. Following multiple rounds of rigorous screening, 27 teams made it to the Grand Finale, which took place over 36 hours from October 6 to October 8, 2025. The finalists presented innovative solutions designed to tackle real-world cyber threats, improve data protection, and explore AI-driven security models.
The Terrier Cyber Quest aligns with the Indian Army’s increasing focus on developing cyber capabilities and harnessing technological innovation. Engaging with students, professionals, and defence personnel, this initiative aspires to nurture a robust national cybersecurity culture, raise awareness, and integrate advanced technologies into defense applications.
As the 76th Territorial Army Day unfolded, it celebrated the legacy of India’s citizen soldiers who manage to balance civilian professions with military duties. Their roles in nation-building, from disaster relief and supporting during pandemics to participation in frontline operations, embody the spirit of service and patriotism.
Through accolades such as the COAS Silver Trophy and initiatives like the Terrier Cyber Quest, the Indian Army continues to recognize excellence, foster innovation, and affirm its commitment to ensuring that both tradition and technology are integral to the nation’s defense.
