IAF Participation In Tactical Leadership Programme In Egypt

  • IAF contingent is reaching the midway point of the Tactical Leadership Programme at Egyptian Air Force (EAF) Weapon School in Egypt (Cairo West Airbase). The programme commenced on 24 Jun and will culminate on 23 Jul 22. IAF is participating with three Su-30 MKI aircraft.
  • Two C-17 aircraft were used for induction of the contingent. IAF Su-30 MKI aircraft undertook a non-stop ferry of six hours from Jamnagar airbase (India) to Cairo West airbase (Egypt), overflying four countries enroute.
  • Tactical Leadership Program is a unique exercise, wherein IAF is participating with its aircrew as instructors. This exercise provides a good opportunity to showcase the reach and capability of the IAF. It will also assist in enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries and exchange of best practices.
  • During the first two weeks of the exercise IAF aircraft participated in missions by day and night, involving air to ground & air to air combat scenarios and Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR) activity alongside Egyptian F-16, Rafale and Mig 29 aircraft.

First-ever ‘AI in Defence’ Exhibition & Symposium To Be Held In New Delhi On July 11

  • Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the first ever ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ symposium and exhibition, organised by Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, in New Delhi on July 11, 2022.
  • The event will feature an exhibition to showcase the cutting-edge AI-enabled solutions developed by the Services, research organisations, Industry and start-ups & innovators and launch of AI products for the market.
  • The products are in the domains of automation/unmanned/robotics systems, cyber security, human behaviour analysis, intelligent monitoring system, logistics and supply chain management, speech/voice analysis and Command, Control, Communication, Computer & Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems and Operational Data Analytics.
  • A ‘GenNext AI’ Solutions Competition has been organised to get bright innovative ideas from students on futuristic AI solutions. The top three ideas curated by AI experts will also be felicitated. An exhibition of AI products has also been organised. The event is likely to be attended by dignitaries from friendly foreign countries, senior officials from MoD and other Ministries of GOI.

INS Tarkash – Long-Range Overseas Deployment

  • Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tarkash, visited Djibouti as part of her long-range overseas deployment followed by Maritime Partnership Exercise with Sudan Navy. The ship is on a deployment to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is intended to coincide with Independence Day enabling her to hoist the tricolor in South America on the occasion as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
    • INS Tarkash also conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise with Sudan Navy ships Almazz (PC 411) and Nimer (PC 413) in the Red Sea near the Sudan Naval Base on 07 July 2022. The exercise included manoeuvres, flying operations for vertical replenishment, visit and board operations, and communication procedures.
    • INS Tarkash is a state-of-the-art platform and has a weapon-sensor fit that enables her address threats in all dimensions. The ship is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet and functions under the operational command of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.

One-Day State Mourning on the passing away of Mr. Shinzo Abe

  • Mr. Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan passed away on 08th July 2022. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day’s State Mourning tomorrow throughout India.
  • The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on the day of mourning throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.
  • Describing Abe as a “towering global statesman, an outstanding leader and a remarkable administrator”, PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet:“As far as global leadership is concerned, Abe San was ahead of his times. The Quad, the ASEAN-led forums, the Indo Pacific Oceans Initiative, the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure all benefited from his contributions.”

India Posts Record Rs 13,000 Crore Worth Defence Exports In 2021-22

  • India exported defence items and technology worth a record Rs 13,000 crore in 2021-22, an impressive 54.1 per cent rise over the previous year, a top defence ministry official said on Friday. The country’s defence exports are chiefly to the US, the Philippines and other countries in South-East Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
  • India’s defence exports were worth Rs 8,434 crore in 2020-21, Rs 9,115 crore in 2019-20 and Rs 2,059 crore in 2015-16. At an event titled “Artificial Intelligence in Defence” on Monday, the defence ministry will reward a private sector organisation and another from the public sector that performed the best in defence exports
  • Sweden-based think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, in its report titled “Trends in international arms transfers-2021” released in March this year, placed India at the 23rd spot among top 25 exporters of weapons, with Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Armenia being its top customers.

India’s Tejas Is Out As PAF Shortlists F-16 And Gripen In Fighter Jet Tender

  • The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has shortlisted the Lockheed Martin F-16 and the Saab JAS-39 Gripen in its multi-role fighter jet (MRF) tender. “(The) two last contenders, (for the PAF MRF project are the) F-16V Block 50/52 Variant and the JAS-39 Gripen C/D+ Version,” PAF spokesperson.
  • The latest F-16 Block 70/72, presented in 2012, offers an upgraded radar, avionics and airframe compared to the Block 50/52, which entered production in 1991. The Gripen E/F, which began deliveries in 2021, is presented as an all-round upgrade of the Gripen C/D, manufactured since 2002.

Army Now Wants A Small Satellite To Train Its Signals Officers

  • In keeping with the ongoing advances in the military use of space, the Army now wants a small communication satellite for training its students from the Corps of Signals at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) at Dr Ambedkar Nagar in Madhya Pradesh.
  • The Army on Thursday issued a request for information (RFI) to Indian companies for designing, developing and fabricating the communication satellite, which will be launched by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) of Isro.
  • “Communication Satellites are used by advanced militaries, including the Indian Army, to provide ubiquitous communication coverage, including to remotest of the locations. They also provide a reliable redundancy to our existing communication infrastructure”.
  • The armed forces have a few dedicated satellites like the GSAT-7 for the Navy and GSAT-7A for the IAF. The defence ministry in November last year had also approved the Rs 2,236 core project to launch the GSAT-7C satellite for the IAF, while also giving the nod in March this year for the Rs 4,600 crore project for a GSAT-7B satellite for the Army.
