India ASTDS Tug

  • Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of MoPSW & AYUSH, virtually inaugurated the 60T bollard pull tug named ‘Ocean Grace’ and the Medical Mobile Unit (MMU) on March 2, 2024.
  • The Ocean Grace is the first Make-in-India ASTDS Tug developed by Cochin Shipyard Limited under MoPSW.
  • The MMU is part of the port’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
  • The MMU, dedicated alongside the Ocean Grace, offers a diverse range of healthcare services, underscoring the port’s dedication to community well-being.

  • Green Tug Transition Programme  aims to convert 50% of all tugs into Green Tugs by 2030, with major ports transitioning to eco-friendly operations. 
  • DPA, PPA, and VoCPA will procure two brand-new green tugs from Cochin Shipyard by 2027 as part of the initial phase.
  • Initiatives include the development and deployment of cutting-edge technology vessels, such as electric water taxis, hybrid ferries, and LNG-electric cargo carriers.
  • The vision encompasses the incorporation of green hydrogen and ammonia-powered vessels at major ports, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability.

1st Green Hydrogen Plant In Stainless Steel Sector

  • Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia virtually inaugurated India’s 1st Green Hydrogen Plant in the Stainless Steel Sector at Jindal Stainless Limited, Hisar.
  • This plant will be the world’s first off-grid Green Hydrogen plant for the stainless steel industry and the world’s first Green Hydrogen plant with rooftop and floating solar.

  • This project will reduce carbon emissions by around two thousand 700 Metric Tonnes per annum and 54 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next two decades.
  • Mr Scindia highlighted India’s commitment to a green and sustainable future, emphasizing the need for responsible economic progress in the post-COVID era.
  • He also highlighted India’s progress in the steel sector, evolving from a net importer to a net exporter and aiming to become the world’s largest producer of crude steel.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched last year with an outlay of around twenty thousand crore rupees to make India a Global Hub for the production, usage and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.

SWAYAM Plus

  • In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced the launch of the SWAYAM Plus platform, operated by IIT-Madras.
  • This initiative aims to provide industry-relevant courses to enhance the employability of learners, including working professionals.
  • Key Features of SWAYAM Plus Platform:
  • Collaboration with industry leaders such as L&T, Microsoft, CISCO, and others to develop courses aligned with industry needs.
  • Multilingual content, AI-enabled guidance, credit recognition, and pathways to employment are integrated into the platform.

  • Focus on building a comprehensive ecosystem for professional and career development, involving learners, course providers, industry, academia, and strategic partners.
  • Providing credit recognition for high-quality certifications and courses offered by industry and academia partners.
  • Targeting learners from tier 2 and 3 towns and rural areas, offering employment-focused courses in vernacular languages.

Sumji faction & Bhat faction as Unlawful Associations

  • The central government, under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, has declared two factions of the Muslim Conference in Jammu & Kashmir as unlawful associations.
  • This measure aims to combat terrorism and preserve national security.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement via a statement on social media platform X, highlighting the government’s dedication to dismantling terror networks and safeguarding the nation’s integrity.

  • Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji Faction):
  • Engaged in activities detrimental to India’s sovereignty and integrity.
  • Actively supporting terrorist activities to separate Jammu and Kashmir from the Indian union.
  • Numerous criminal cases, including those under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, registered against the Sumji faction and its members.

Tawi Festival

  • Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the umbrella of the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) are poised to make a significant mark at the upcoming 4-day ‘Tawi Festival’ in Jammu.
  • This endeavor aims to spotlight the rich tapestry of art forms and cultural heritage of the region while highlighting the skills and creativity of local artisans.
  • The initiative, in collaboration with the Amar Mahal Museum and Library (AMML), is designed to provide a platform for these women to exhibit their talents and achieve economic empowerment.

  • Around 35-40 SHGs from Jammu, Samba, and Udhampur districts will be participating in this cultural extravaganza.
  • Eight stalls have been allocated to SHG members, comprising six food stalls offering delicacies such as Rajma/Rice and Kalari, alongside other Dogra cuisines.
  • Indu Kanwal Chib, Mission Director of Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), highlighted the significance of women’s participation in this grand event.
  • She emphasized that the Tawi Festival provides a significant platform for women SHGs to showcase their talents and crafts, facilitating networking opportunities and spotlighting their entrepreneurial spirit and innovative products.
