IAF’s Sukhoi Fighter Crashes In Nashik

  • A Sukhoi fighter plane of the Indian Air Force crashed in Nashik district of Maharashtra on Tuesday, police said. The pilot and co-pilot ejected safely, Special Inspector General of Nashik Range D R Karale told PTI. The plane crashed in a field near Shirasgaon village, the IPS officer said.
  • The fighter jet was being flown by Wing Commander Bokil and his second in command Biswas when it crashed in a farm in Shirasgaon village in Nifad tehsil at 1.20 pm.
  • Both the pilots ejected safely and have suffered minor injuries, another police official said. They were shifted to the HAL hospital. After it crashed, the aircraft caught fire which was doused. The parts of the plane are now spread in a 500 metre radius, he said.

2 Japanese F-35 Fighter Jets Make Emergency Landings

  • Two Japanese F-35A stealth fighter jets made emergency landings at a commercial airport in northern Japan on Monday, but there were no injuries or damage, officials said.
  • The fighter jets were on a training flight from Misawa Air Base and landed safely at nearby Aomori Airport after one developed an unspecified mechanical problem and requested an emergency landing.
  • The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American family of single-seat, single-engine, stealth multirole combat aircraft designed for air superiority and strike missions; it also has electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

Over 400 Agniveer Recruits Join Arm At POP

  • As many as 402 well trained Agniveer recruits were inducted into the Ladakh Scouts regiment of the Army at a passing out parade here on Tuesday, a defence spokesperson said.
  • The ceremony conducted in consonance with the highest traditions of the Army was reviewed by Chief of Staff, headquarters 14 Corps, Maj Gen Dinesh Kumar Singh and was attended by a spectrum of distinguished military officers, civil dignitaries and parents of Agniveers, the spokesperson said.
  • Notably, the Agnipath Scheme stands as the sole pathway for individuals to serve in the military. Recruits enlisted under the banner of Agniveers commit to a four-year tenure, comprising six months of rigorous training followed by 3.5 years of active deployment. Upon completion of their service term, they are allowed to apply for continued service within the armed forces, thereby perpetuating their dedication to the nation’s defense.

BEL, HAL, Mazagon Dock And Other Defence Stocks Falls As Much As 15%

  • Shares of defense-related companies plummeted as much as 15 percent in trade on June 4, as investors rushed to take partial profits following a recent bull run in these stocks.
  • Earlier today, shares of Bharat Electronics were the hardest hit within the defense sector, locked in a 15 percent lower circuit on the BSE. Shares of Bharat Dynamics, HAL, MDL, and CSL also faced significant declines, each falling around 10-12 percent.
  • In the previous session, shares of Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Dynamics, and Bharat Electronics had surged nearly 10 percent, reaching their all-time highs after exit polls predicted a return of the BJP-led NDA, suggesting policy continuity by the incumbent government.

US Pentagon chief visits Cambodia To Boost Ties With China Ally

  • US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Cambodia on Tuesday in an effort to reset ties with the staunch China ally.
  • Washington’s relationship with the Southeast Asian nation has been deteriorating for years, with China pouring in billions of dollars in infrastructure investments under Cambodia’s former leader Hun Sen.
  • The United States has voiced concerns over a key Cambodian naval base that is being upgraded by Beijing, which it says could be used to boost the Asian giant’s influence in the Gulf of Thailand.
  • Austin’s visit comes just days after Cambodia and China wrapped up their largest annual military Golden Dragon exercises, involving several Chinese warships and hundreds of military personnel.
  • In early 2017, Cambodia scrapped a similar joint exercise with US forces.
  • In December, two Chinese warships made a first visit to the Ream Naval Base that Washington fears is intended for Chinese military use.
  • Cambodian officials have repeatedly denied that the base, near the port city of Sihanoukville, is for use by any foreign power.
  • Cambodian political analyst Ou Virak told AFP that the relaunch of joint exercises might be a point of discussion during Austin’s visit.
