BEML signs MoU with Indian Navy

  • Bengaluru headquartered BEML, India’s leading defence and heavy engineering PSU, on Tuesday signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Directorate of Marine Engineering, Indian Navy.
  • The agreement was signed at the Naval Headquarters in Delhi, with Ajit Kumar Srivastav, Director of Defence at BEML, and Rear Admiral K Srinivas, ACOM (D&R) of the Indian Navy.
  • The collaboration will enhance indigenous marine engineering capabilities, ensuring that both current and future naval projects are equipped with state-of-the-art, domestically produced technology, BEML said.

Ukraine Launches Drone Attack On Moscow

  • Ukraine launched a widespread drone attack on Russia on Wednesday, with air defence units destroying three drones some 38 kms (24 miles) south of the Kremlin, and 15 over the border Bryansk region, Russian officials said.
  • The three attack drones heading towards Moscow were downed over the city of Podolsk in the Moscow region, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
  • Russia’s RIA state news agency reported also that two drones were destroyed over the Tula region, which borders the Moscow region to its north.
  • In recent months, Kyiv has stepped up its air attacks on Russian territory, saying its aim is to destroy infrastructure key to Moscow’s war efforts. It also says that its attacks are in response to Russia’s continued strikes on Ukrainian territory.

Amit Shah To Hold Anti-naxal Review Meet

  • Shah will hold the review meetings in Naya Raipur, the administrative capital of Chhattisgarh, on August 24 with chief secretaries and director generals of police of Maoist-affected Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.
  • In the run-up to November 2023 Assembly elections, BJP had promised that if voted to power, it will end Naxalism within three years by 2026.
  • A senior Chhattisgarh state official, who did not wish to be named, told ET, “The biggest challenge we are facing in anti-Naxal operations is that they run to.other states and find safe abode. A unified strategy needs to be worked out. This is the main purpose of calling a meeting of DGPs of all states neighboring Chhattisgarh.”

3rd India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue

  • India and Japan on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining and strengthening the rules-based international order founded on the principles of the UN Charter, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity and appreciated the progress made for the transfer of Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) and related technologies and early signing of related arrangements.
  • During the 2+2 meeting held here, the two sides highlighted their common strategic vision towards a free and open Indo-Pacific, that is inclusive, peaceful, prosperous and resilient, as part of the rules-based international order.
  • The Ministers welcomed the possibilities to further enhance the bilateral security and defence cooperation following the National Security Strategy of Japan issued in December 2022 and recognized such cooperation as an important pillar of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
  • The Ministers appreciated that the first Joint Service Staff Talks were held. The Ministers further appreciated the successful completion of the cooperation in the areas of Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)/Robotics. They appreciated the progress made for the transfer of Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) and related technologies and early signing of related arrangements. The Ministers expressed their satisfaction with the seventh India-Japan Joint Working Group on Defence Equipment and Technology Cooperation.

Naval Science and Technological Laboratory celebrates 55th Lab Raising Day

  • Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) celebrated its 55th Lab Raising Day on Tuesday in presence of senior naval officer with great zeal and enthusiasm.
  • Established on 20 Aug 1969 with 10 staff members, NSTL has grown multifold with 603 personnel including 186 Scientists and has made significant contributions to defence R&D and is recognized as one of the premiere labs of DRDO engaged in the development of underwater weapons and systems.

BSF Man Makes History As First CAPF Officer To Complete Ironman Triathlon

  • A 35-year-old BSF officer has become the first CAPF officer to successfully complete the Ironman challenge, one of the toughest triathlon events across the globe. Assistant Commandant Harish Kajla joined the country’s largest border-guarding force in 2012.
  • He is currently on deputation posting to the counter-terrorist commando force National Security Guard (NSG).
  • The Ironman challenge comprises three events which include 3.8 kilometres of swimming, 180 kilometres of cycling and 42.2 kilometres of full marathon. For the latest event, under the male 35-39 years of age category, the cut-off timing was 15:45:00, as per the BSF.
