National Space Day

  • The first National Space Day 2024 will be celebrated across the country tomorrow. On this day last year, Chandrayaan-3 mission accomplished the safe and soft landing of Vikram Lander on the lunar surface.
  • President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the main function, which will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The theme for this year’s celebration is Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga, which emphasizes the profound impact of space exploration on society and technology.

  • Minister of State for Space Dr Jitendra Singh said, this is the first National Space Day to be observed and it is not only a day of celebration but also a day of reflection, introspection and charting for the future.
  • He said, the space economy will grow five times in the next ten years to around 44 billion dollars.
  • Over one thousand events were organised across the country in the last one month to celebrate National Space Day.
  • Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon and ISRO Robotics Challenge were organised as part of the celebration.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru has planned several events to celebrate the National Space Day in recognition of India soft landing Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander in the South Polar region of Moon.
  • Director of the Planetarium and former ISRO Scientist Dr B R Guruprasad informs about the activities planned on the National Space Day. Apart from the exhibits, the Planetarium is also planning a lecture on the Moon and another on the exciting journey of Chandrayaan 3. There will also be painting, pick and speak, JigSaw puzzle and walk in quiz organised on this occasion for children.

First Ever Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar

  • President Droupadi Murmu presided over the first-ever investiture ceremony for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (National Science Awards).
  • These awards, instituted last year to replace all existing science accolades, mark a new chapter in recognizing scientific excellence in the country.
  • The ceremony’s highlight was the conferral of the inaugural Vigyan Ratna Puraskar, India’s highest science award, to Govindrajan Padmanabhan, a renowned biochemist and former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. This award acknowledges Dr. Padmanabhan’s significant contributions to biochemistry and his leadership in Indian scientific research.

Seaplane Operation Guidelines

  • Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu launched the guidelines for seaplane operation under RCS-UDAN in New Delhi.
  • The guidelines prioritize the safety and security of seaplane operations and clearly outline the responsibilities of each stakeholder, from the operators to the regulatory bodies.

  • Guidelines ensure seamless and efficient rollout of seaplane operations across the nation.
  • On the occasion, Mr. Naidu said that the guidelines aim to connect remote areas of the country and make travel more accessible for all. He added that after the success of RCS-UDAN, the government is considering to propose RCS-UDAN 2.0 for the next 10 years.

  • Union Minister said that the integration of seaplane into the existing aviation system will provide last-mile connectivity to the regions that have remained isolated due to geographical challenges.
  • Mr. Naidu said that the country is uniquely positioned to leverage the potential of seaplane operations and the government is committed to unlocking the potential and transforming coastlines, rivers, lakes, and islands for connectivity, avenues of economic opportunity, and pathways to inclusive development
  • UDAN Scheme (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a regional airport development and Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Union Government of India which aims to provide connectivity to un-served and under-served airports of the country through the revival of existing airstrips and airports.

‘Create in India Challenge Season One’

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched ‘Create in India Challenge-Season One’ in New Delhi this evening in the run-up to the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit.
  • Mr Vaishnaw said that reflecting the evolution of Indian economy and the impact of technological advancements, 25 challenges have been launched.
  • He said, the Media and Entertainment industry has also evolved, significantly boosting the creator economy.

  • Minister said, this creator economy was recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who presented the first National Creator Awards. He said, the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit WAVES is set to take place for the first time and the Ministry has received a lot of positive feedback.
  • Mr Vaishnaw said, considering this, Ministry is planning to organize it on a large scale. He said, in the near future, WAVES is poised to become a significant event, with these 25 challenges playing a crucial role in it.

  • Minister said, Government of India encourages the new creators economy as it can generate employment.
  • Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju mentioned that this initiative is a significant milestone in the ongoing mission to nurture and elevate India’s creative ecosystem. He said, it aligns seamlessly with the Prime Minister’s visionary call of ‘Design in India, Design for the World’ as articulated during the 78th Independence Day address.

Handicrafts Exports Awards

  • Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh has highlighted the handicrafts sector’s pivotal role in the growth of Indian economy.
  • Addressing the 24th Handicrafts Exports Awards in New Delhi yesterday, he noted that the handicrafts sector currently enjoys a growth rate of nearly nine to ten percent.

  • On this occasion, the Minister encouraged women to join the handicrafts sector. The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts organized the event to honor the top exporters in the industry.
  • Ajay Gupta’s C.L. Gupta Exports Limited received the Top All Handicrafts Award for both 2019-20 and 2020-21. Muzafar Hussain from Jammu and Kashmir won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

FIBA 3×3 U18 Basketball World Cup

  • Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has congratulated Aahana George, Aanaya Bhavsar, and Gunjan Mantri for their selection in the FIBA 3×3 Under-18 Basketball World Cup 2024.
  • Tournament is scheduled to begin in Debrecen, Hungary from 26th of this month.
  • Dr Mandaviya hailed the Khelo India initiative of the government and said the selection highlights the program’s success in developing top talent. He also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Khelo India initiative is soaring.

Ronak Dahiya

  • Indian wrestler Ronak Dahiya won Bronze medal in Men’s  Greco-Roman 110 kilograms event at Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Jordan yesterday.
  • Dahiya defeated Turkish wrestler Emrullah Capkan 6-1 in the crucial medal match. With this, India has finished their campaign in Men’s Greco-Roman category with two Bronze medals in the championship as Sainath Pardhi also secured Bronze in GR 51 kilograms category.
