Exercise AL NAJAH V 2024

• The Indian Army contingent departed today for the 5^th edition of India-Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 13^th to 26^th September 2024 at Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman.
• Exercise AL NAJAH has been held biennially since 2015, alternating between India and Oman. Last edition of the same exercise was conducted at Mahajan in Rajasthan.
• The Indian Army contingent comprising 60 personnel is being represented by a Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment along with personnel from other arms and services. The Royal Army of Oman contingent also comprising of 60 personnel will be represented by the troops of Frontier Force.
• Aim of the Joint Exercise is to enhance joint military capability of both sides to undertake counter terrorism operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will focus on operations in the Desert environment.

Flight Test VL-SRSAM

• DRDO and the Indian Navy successfully conducted the flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, on September 12, 2024.
• The flight test was carried out from a land-based vertical launcher, targeting a high-speed aerial target flying at a low altitude. The missile system successfully tracked and engaged the target.
• This test aimed to validate multiple updated elements of the weapon system, including the Proximity Fuse and Seeker. The performance of the system was meticulously tracked and confirmed by various instruments such as the Radar Electro-Optical Tracking System and telemetry deployed at ITR Chandipur.

NCC Thal Sainik Camp-2024 Concludes

• The 12-day NCC Thal Sainik Camp-2024 concluded on 12 September 2024 in New Delhi. The camp saw the participation of 1,547 boy and girl cadets, representing 17 NCC Directorates from across the country.
• The camp involved various competitions, including Weapon firing, Map Reading, judging distance & field signal and Health & Hygiene events that challenged the cadets’ physical and mental capabilities.
• Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, DGNCC said that the experience gained during their 12-day stay will serve as an invaluable foundation for their future endeavours.
• DG praised the NCC’s role in grooming the youth of the country.
• The National Cadet Corps is the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces with its headquarters in New Delhi, India. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis as a Tri-Services Organisation, comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

Jaishankar Says 75 % of Disengagement Problems ‘Sorted Out’ With China

• Highlighting the progress on border talks with China, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that 75 per cent of disengagement problems with Beijing are sorted out; however, the two nations “still have some things to do.”
• “We did not have an easy relationship in the past. What happened in 2020 was in violation of multiple agreements, the Chinese moved a large number of troops to the Line of Actual Control. We, in response, moved our troops up.. Some progress on border talks with China. 75 per cent of disengagement problems are sorted out.We still have some things to do,” Jaishankar said during his conversation with Ambassador Jean-David Levitte at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy on Thursday.
• NSA Ajit Doval met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting. During their discussions, Doval emphasised that maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas, as well as respecting the LAC are essential for restoring normalcy in bilateral relations between India and China.

US Imposes Sanctions On Suppliers To Pakistan’s Ballistic Missile Program

• The US State Department imposed sanctions on China-based firms, for their supply to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program under the missile sanctions laws on Thursday.
• “The Department of State is taking action against five entities and one individual that have been involved in the proliferation of ballistic missiles and controlled missile equipment and technology.Specifically, the Department of State is designating the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry (RIAMB) pursuant to Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press statement.Notably, RIAMB has worked with Pakistan’s National Development Complex (NDC), -which the United States assesses is involved in the development and production of Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missiles.
• Responding to a question on the reason behind these sanctions, Patel while addressing the presser, stated “The sanctions were made because these were entities that were proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and the means of their delivery.”
