World Tourism Day
- World Tourism Day is being celebrated across the globe. The Day is celebrated on 27th of September every year highlighting tourism’s role in connecting people and boosting economies.
- The theme for this year is ‘Tourism and Peace.’ The day also aims to foster a more sustainable and equitable tourism industry for future generations.
- The Ministry of Tourism will celebrate World Tourism Day 2024 in New Delhi today. It will highlight the crucial role of tourism in fostering development and global harmony.
- Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will address the event. On the occasion, the ministry will announce the winners of the best tourism village awards. Secretary-General of UN World Tourism Organisation, Zurab Pololikashvili said, tourism builds trust and respect, and it drives inclusive growth and safeguards against conflict.
India Third Largest Producer And Consumer Of Ethanol
- Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that India has become the World’s third largest Producer and Consumer of Ethanol.
- While inaugurating the two-day India Sugar and Bio-Energy conference in New Delhi, the Minister emphasized that the government is committed to a robust, sustainable sugar industry that is not only an economic pillar but also a driving force in India’s renewable energy landscape.
- Speaking on Sugar Production in the country, the minister said that in the last decade sugarcane cultivation increased by about 18 percent while the sugarcane production has increased by 40 percent.
- Minimum Support Price, the dues of farmers has become a thing of the past and stressed on the vital role of the farmers in the country’s renewable energy landscape from being the Anna Dattas to becoming Urja Dattas.
- Mr. Joshi added that the government has launched national green hydrogen mission last year with an outlay of 19 thousand 744 crore rupees to make India a global hub for production, usage and export of Green Hydrogen.
Minimum Wage Rates
- Central government has announced an increase in minimum wage rates by revising the Variable Dearness Allowance. The new wage rates will take effect from 1st October.
- The minimum wage rates are categorized based on skill levels-unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled, as well as by geographical areas A, B, and C. After the revision, minimum wage rates for workers in area ‘A’ in construction, sweeping, cleaning, and loading & unloading for unskilled work will be 783 rupees a day. For semi-skilled workers, the minimum wage will be 868 rupees a day, and for skilled, clerical, and watch & ward (without arms), the minimum wage will be 954 rupees a day. For highly skilled workers and watch & ward (with arms), the revised wage will be 1,035 rupees a day.
PARAM Rudra Supercomputers
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers in Pune this evening via video conferencing.
- Mr. Modi also inaugurated a High-Performance Computing (HPC) system tailored for weather and climate research.
- Prime Minister said, that with Param Rudra Supercomputers and HPC system, India takes significant steps towards self-reliance in computing and driving innovation in science and tech. In the era of the digital revolution, computing capacity is becoming an alternative for national capability.
- Prime Minister said that today is a day of great achievement for India in the world of science and technology.
- It also reflects how 21st-century India is advancing by prioritizing science, technology, and research. Mr. Modi added that there is no sector that is not directly dependent on technology and computing capabilities and India’s share should not be in bits and bytes but in terabytes and petabytes in this.
- Mr. Modi said that this achievement proves the country is moving in the right direction at the right pace. This sector is the biggest foundation of India’s success in Industry 4.0. Mr Modi said that semiconductors have become an essential element of development.
- Centre has launched an important initiative, the India Semiconductor Mission and the country is already witnessing its positive results.
- Prime Minister also said that India is developing its own semiconductor ecosystem, which will be a crucial part of the global supply chain. In this revolution, India’s share should not be in bits and bytes but in terabytes and petabytes. Mr Modi said, this achievement proves that the country is moving in the right direction at the right pace.
- Prime Minister said that the country’s dream is to become self-reliant in the field of technology through scientific research.
- Mr. Modi said that India is committed to empowering the world and humankind with the help of technology, and initiatives like Digital India, Start-Up India, and ambitious projects like Gaganyaan have been launched for this purpose.
- The three PARAM Rudra supercomputers, worth around 130 crore rupees, have been developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission. These supercomputers have been deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata to facilitate pioneering scientific research.
CDSCO : 50 Drugs As ‘Not Of Standard Quality’
- Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) has declared more than 50 drugs as ‘not of standard quality ‘in its recent monthly report. This raises safety concerns regarding their usage.
- These drugs include paracetamol, Vitamin B Complex, and calcium and Vitamin D3 tablets. These products were not of standard quality and were manufactured by several companies. CDSCO):
- It is the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) of India for the medical devices industry under the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules.
- It works under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
- Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is the head of the CDSCO.

India Signs Agreement To Protect Marine Biodiversity
- India signed an international agreement to protect marine biodiversity on the high seas at the United Nations General Assembly.
- The pact, formally known as the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement, is signed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
- This Agreement is aimed at ensuring that marine life is conserved and used in a sustainable manner on the high seas, which is beyond nations’ territorial waters, and the exclusive economic zone could extend up to 370 km from the shores, which constitutes about two-thirds of all the oceans.
- The agreement was about 20 years in the making before it was adopted internationally last year, and it bans destructive fishing and pollution.
- Under the agreement, countries cannot claim sovereign rights over marine resources on the high seas, and it ensures equitable sharing of benefits from those resources. The Cabinet approved India’s participation in the agreement in July.

“Tsangyang Gyatso Peak”
- National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), has successfully scaled an unnamed and unclimbed 6383 MSL or 20,942 ft high peak in Gorichen range of Arunachal Pradesh Himalayas on Tawang-West Kameng region.
- The peak, at a height of 6,383 meters above sea level in the Gorichen range of Arunachal Pradesh Himalayas in Tawang-West Kameng region, was considered one of the most technically challenging and unexplored summits in the region.
- After overcoming immense challenges including sheer ice walls, treacherous crevasses, and a 2-kilometer-long glacier, the team has immortalized the momentous feat.
- “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak” in honor of His Holiness the 6th Dalai Lama, Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso. By naming this peak after him, NIMAS aims to pay tribute to his timeless wisdom and his profound contributions to the Monpa community and beyond.
- The expedition to conquer “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak” was one of the toughest ever undertaken by the NIMAS team.
- The route was fraught with dangerous crevasses, steep ice walls, and unpredictable weather conditions.
- However, through sheer determination and teamwork, the team was able to navigate these challenges and reach the summit, making history in the process.
- About NIMAS
- NIMAS, which has been at the forefront of adventure and mountaineering in India, has informed the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) about the ascent and the decision to name the peak.
- The necessary formalities for naming the peak are being completed to ensure that “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak” is recognized on the official map.
‘Paridhi 24×25’
- Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, alongside Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, launched the India-specific fashion trend book “Paridhi 24×25,” a bilingual web portal of VisioNxt, and an AI Taxonomy e-book.
- This significant event attracted over 150 industry leaders from the fashion, textiles, and retail sectors, as well as prominent craftsmen and weavers from various craft clusters.
- VisioNxt has already produced over 60 micro trend reports, more than 10 close-to-season trend reports, 3 research papers, and the inaugural AI Taxonomy book on Indian wear categories.
- VisioNxt aims to position India on a global scale in fashion trend prediction, enhancing the visibility of Indian fashion vocabulary and identity while decreasing reliance on international trend agencies.
- By entering the forecasting space, India seeks to provide unique insights into local fashion consumers, integrating its strengths in information technology and textiles through a blend of artificial and human intelligence.
- Inauguration of NIFT Begusarai Extension Centre : The inauguration of the much-anticipated National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Begusarai Extension Centre was part of the launch event.
- The center will host a three-day workshop focused on imparting basic tailoring and garment construction skills.
CAG Of India Assumes Chairmanship Of ASOSAI
- Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, officially took over the chairmanship of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the term 2024-2027.
- This significant transition was highlighted during the 16th Assembly of ASOSAI, which has expanded its membership to include 48 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) across Asia.
- CAG Murmu announced that the institution is in the process of developing its own Artificial Intelligence (AI) protocol to expedite the writing of audit reports.
- He emphasized that the current data collection involves field auditors, who will subsequently clean and classify the data according to specific requirements. The aim is to minimize algorithm biases during data analysis, ensuring more accurate and efficient auditing processes.
- During the upcoming winter session, approximately 35 audit reports are expected to be tabled in both Parliament and state assemblies, with around 200 reports presented annually by the CAG’s office.
- The 16th ASOSAI Assembly approved various strategic and financial reports, including a mid-term review of ASOSAI’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2027 and the outcomes of the Bangkok Declaration from 2021.
- Discussions also focused on enhancing collaborations among member SAIs, particularly through capacity-building initiatives and the development of IT audit frameworks.
- Bilateral dialogues between SAI India and SAI Malaysia, as well as cooperation with the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (IDI), were also conducted.

- In snooker, Indian veteran Kamal Chawla has clinched his maiden IBSF World 6-Red title with a commanding 6-2 victory over Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal in the final at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
