Israel Military Says Iran Attack Will Have Consequences

  • Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel’s campaign against Tehran’s Hezbollah allies in Lebanon. Alarms sounded across Israel and explosions could be heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley after Israelis piled into bomb shelters.
  • Iran’s missile attack on Tuesday was serious and will have consequences, Israel’s military spokesperson said, declining to specify how and when Israel would respond.
  • World leaders, including UK PM Kier Starmer, UK Defence Secretary John Healey, and Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese condemned Iran’s attack on Israel.
  • EAM S Jaishankar said on Tuesday that India is “very much” concerned at the possibility of broadening of the conflict in the Middle East.

Arti Sarin Becomes First Woman To Take Over As DG, AFMS

  • Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, on October 01, 2024, became the first woman officer to take over as the Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services. The DGAFMS is directly responsible to the MoD for overall medical policy matters which relate to the Armed Forces.
  • Prior to assuming the appointment of 46th  DGAFMS, the Flag Officer held the coveted appointments of DG Medical Services (Navy), DG Medical Services (Air) and Director & Commandant of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.
  • She is an alumna of AFMC, Pune and was commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services in December 1985.

Chanakya Defence Dialogue – 2024

  • The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), is set to conduct the 2nd Edition of its flagship event, Chanakya Defence Dialogue-2024 on the themeDrivers in Nation Building: Fuelling Growth through Comprehensive Security”.
  • The much-awaited event, will be conducted on 24th and 25th October 2024 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  • The COAS shared his thoughts on the theme “Pillars of Security: Powering India’s Path to Viksit Bharat by 2047” in a Fireside Chat. The Chat provided an engaging platform to discuss the role of Indian Armed Forces as Net Security provider in India’s development trajectory.

IDS Celebrates Its 24th Raising Day

  • Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) celebrated its 24th Raising Day on October 01, 2024. Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Lt Gen JP Mathew laid a wreath at the National War Memorial New Delhi in remembrance of the fallen heroes, on behalf of All Ranks of the ‘Purple Fraternity’.
  • HQ IDS plays a pivotal role in coordination, integration and providing policy inputs for force structures, modernisation, and development of equipment of the three services, based on the anticipated threat perception.
  • The HQ IDS was raised on October 01, 2001 to provide an institutional framework for managing defence at a higher level and integrate the three Services and other relevant elements in the quest of credible and comprehensive national power. Motto ‘Victory Through Jointness‘.

MNS Celebrates Its 99th Raising Day

  • The Military Nursing Service (MNS) marked its 99th Raising Day on Oct 1, 2024, with solemnity and pride. Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora, Addl Director General of MNS laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, in the presence of senior MNS officers and veterans.
  • The MNS, established in 1926, has grown into a robust and indispensable part of the Indian Armed Forces. Over the past 99 years, it has evolved into a highly skilled and specialized cadre, committed to providing the best possible medical care to Indian soldiers and their families.
  • The Military Nursing Service continues to uphold its mission of “Service before Self,” and the motto ‘Service with Smile’ that resonates deeply with every MNS officer in the service.

Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Visits Bander Abbas

  • The ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) – INS Tir, INS Shardul and ICGS Veera arrived at the port city of Bandar Abbas, Iran as part of long range training deployment in the Persian Gulf.
  • The visit signifies a vital step in strengthening maritime cooperative engagement and fostering mutual understanding.
  • During the visit, the ships will engage in activities aimed at enhancing maritime security and interoperability between Indian Navy and IRI Navy. Professional exchanges, cross training visits, wreath laying, friendly sports fixtures and Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) are planned during the ship’s stay.
  • IRI Naval Ship Dena had also participated in the multi lateral Naval Exercise MILAN 24 in Feb 24. The extant visit underscores India’s commitment to maritime cooperation with regional states in line with the vision of SAGAR (Security & Growth for All in the Region).
