US Charges Ex- Indian Official For Plotting To Kill Sikh Separatist

  • The US has charged a former Indian intelligence official for allegedly directing a foiled plot to murder pro-Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, days after members of an Indian inquiry committee visited Washington for discussions on the matter.
  • The second indictment by the US justice department in the so-called “murder for hire”, which was ordered to be unsealed on Thursday, came close on the heels of India and the US announcing that an Indian official referred to only as “CC-1” in an earlier indictment had been sacked.
  • The official allegedly implicated in the plot as Vikram Yadav, a CRPF officer who was seconded to the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the external intelligence agency. It couldn’t immediately be ascertained whether Vikram Yadav and Vikash Yadav were the same person.

26 Extradition Requests Pending With Canada; Shared Bishnoi Gang Info: MEA

  • Canadian PM Justin Trudeau says he believes in a ‘One India’ policy, but there is a gap between his government’s actions and words because Ottawa has not taken the actions New Delhi has requested against anti-India elements so far, India’s MEA said on Thursday.
  • He pointed out that at least 26 extradition requests from the Indian side, sent over the last decade or more, were still pending with Canadian authorities.Jaiswal, adding, “We had shared security related information with the Canadian government regarding gang members, including those of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and requested them to arrest them (criminals)… So far, no action has been taken by the Canadian side on our request.”
  • The MEA also questioned reports that the Canadian government had expelled its diplomats earlier this week, instead stating that the decision to withdraw them was taken before the communication from the Canadian side asking them to leave came.

Hamas Chief Sinwar Killed

  • In Short
  • Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar was confirmed dead after Israel conducted DNA testing
  • Sinwar ordered the deadly October 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 Israelis
  • Yahya Sinwar among three terrorists killed by Israel in Gaza
  • Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has confirmed that Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who ordered the October 7 attack on Israel, is dead, according to initial DNA testing. Over the death of Yahya Sinwar, PM Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces have delivered “a blow to evil“. However, he stated that the mission against Hamas is far from over.
  • Yahya Sinwar was born in the Khan Younis refugee camp in south Gaza in 1962, back when the region was under Egyptian control. His parents were expelled from Ashkelon by Zionist forces in 1948 during the Palestinian Nakba (“catastrophe”), which saw mass-scale ethnic cleansing of Arabs amidst the formation of Israel.
  • Sinwar was active in the Muslim Brotherhood in the early 1980s, and was arrested for protesting Israeli occupation while a college student at the Islamic University in Gaza. He is credited with founding Hamas’s Internal Security Force Al Majd, responsible for managing internal security matters, investigating — and allegedly brutally eliminating — suspected Israeli agents and Palestinian collaborators, and tracking down Israeli intelligence and security services officers.
