India-Germany

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz touched on important regional and global issues during their bilateral talks, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in West Asia.
  • Briefing the media in New Delhi on German Chancellor’s visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the high point of the visit was the inter-governmental consultations, which were co-chaired by both leaders. He said the bilateral relationship was reviewed across multiple pillars , including foreign policy, security, economy and commerce, green sustainable development cooperation, and critical and emerging technologies, as well as mobility and migration.

  • The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the considerable progress that has been made in diverse sectors. Relations between India and Germany have been on a constant upswing in recent years. The Foreign Secretary informed that bilateral trade stood at 33 billion dollars in 2023, and cumulative German investments in India amount to nearly 15 billion dollars.
  • He said that while substantial progress has been made, significant potential in the relationship remains to be exploited.
  • On the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, the Foreign Secretary said India values Germany’s support in the ongoing negotiations. He said that Germany understands that the expeditious conclusion of the India-EU FTA is a strategic imperative, especially considering the larger global environment.
  • Mr. Misri said that around 50,000 Indian students form the largest cohort of foreign students in Germany.

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India’s ability to scale up in physical, digital, or social infrastructure, coupled with Germany’s expertise in precision engineering, will create something extraordinary for the world.
  • After inaugurating the 18th Asia Pacific Conference of German Business in New Delhi, the Minister said that India is built on strong macroeconomic fundamentals.
  • He added that reform, resilience, and readiness are essential for the future of businesses across the world. He also noted that the synergies between India and Germany can drive unprecedented growth, from AI adoption to semiconductors. He added that India, together with the Global South, collaborated with developed countries to be part of the solution.
  • India and Germany signed multiple MoUs and agreements ranging from green hydrogen to innovation and technology to boost bilateral relations.

  • India and Germany agreed on the exchange and mutual protection of classified information. Both nations also expressed their commitment to the Indo-German Green Hydrogen roadmap along with innovation and technology. They also signed an agreement for a mutual legal assistance treaty in criminal matters.
  • India and Germany also signed a MoU on cooperation in the fields of skill development and vocational education and training. Besides, the two sides also exchanged three joint declarations of intent in the fields of employment and labour, research and development on advanced materials, and green urban mobility partnerships.

Urban Mobility India Conference

  • The 17th Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition will begin at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the three-day conference organized by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. More than 3000 dignitaries including senior officials and policy makers from Central and State Governments and experts in urban transport will participate in this conference.

  • The conference will mainly focus on standardization of the urban mobility solutions and integration of various modes of urban mobility.    
  • Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will preside over the concluding session of the conference. In the concluding session, cities will be awarded in eight different categories for best urban management.

Pandemic Fund Project & Livestock Census

  • Centre launched the Pandemic Fund Project on Animal Health Security Strengthening in India for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, along with the 21st Livestock Census Operation.
  • During the launch, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that the government is committed to eradicating Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis from the country by 2030.

  • He also mentioned that the livestock census would play a major role in policy-making and limiting diseases in animals. Mr. Singh added that the funds received from the G20 Pandemic Fund project will aid in the development and improvement of animal hospitals.

  • The exhibition continues throughout the week at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, featuring all thirteen artists in this remarkable celebration of Indian artistry and cultural exchange.

18th NFDC Film Bazaar

  • The 18th edition of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Film Bazaar has announced its official selection for the co-production market, featuring 21 feature films and eight web series from seven countries.

  • Film Bazaar is also organised every year in Goa alongside the International Film Festival of India.
  • This year’s official selection showcases a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, Assamese, Tamil, Marwari, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, Nepali, Marathi, Pahadi, and Cantonese.
  • Filmmakers from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Australia, the UK, Germany, and Hong Kong will pitch their projects to a range of industry professionals.

U-23 World Championship

  • In wrestling, India bagged one Silver and a Bronze at the Under 23 Wrestling World Championship 2024 in Tirana, Albania last night. India’s Anjli clinched Silver in the women’s 59kg category. She finished in second place after losing to Solimiia Vynnyk of Ukraine in the final.

  • In Another win for India, Monika in the 68 kg scored a 5-3 victory over the Chinese opponent Xinze Du to grab a bronze medal. Earlier yesterday, India’s Vishvajit Ramchandra More bagged the Bronze medal by defeating Adam Ulbashev, 14-10, in the Men’s 55 kg Greco-Roman category.
