Defence Current Affairs 19 November 2024
Launching of 25T Bollard Pull Tug Yuvan
- The contract for construction and delivery of six 25T BP Tugs was concluded with M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (M/s TRSL), in consonance with ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative of the Government of India.
- These Tugs will be operated by the Indian Navy at the Andaman and Nicobar Command and Eastern Naval Command.
- The 25T BP Tugs will provide assistance to Naval ships and submarines during berthing, un-berthing, turning and manoeuvring in confined waters thereby aiding operations of the IN platforms directly.
- On November 12, DRDO conducted the maiden flight-test of Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the coast of Odisha from a mobile articulated launcher.
MoI Signed With Government Of Japan For Co-development of Unicorn Masts
- A Memorandum of Implementation was signed at the Embassy of India, Tokyo on 15 Nov 24 between Govt of India and Govt of Japan, for co-development of UNICORN mast for fitment onboard Ships of Indian Navy.
- The Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) is a mast with Integrated Communication systems which will help improve the stealth characteristics of Naval Platforms.
- The Indian Navy is pursuing the induction of these advanced systems which will be co-developed by Bharat Electronics Limited in India with Japanese collaboration.
Army’s Sankyukt Vimochan Exercise
- The Indian Army will host Exercise Sanyukt Vimochan 2024 on November 18 and November 19. The exercise will be attended by representatives from nine friendly foreign countries.
- Exercise Sankyukt Vimochan is conducted by the Indian Army which is an annual joint Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Exercise (HADR).
- The exercise will bring together various armed forces, the Armed Forces, the Indian Coast Guard, and both Central and state agencies. It is conducted in Ahmedabad and Porbandar, Gujarat.
ICG Rescues Seven Fishermen From Pakistan Maritime Security Agency
- The ICG ship successfully rescued seven Indian fishermen, apprehended by a Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) ship near the India-Pakistan Maritime Boundary, according to an official release on Monday.
- According to the ICG release, at approximately 3:30 pm on November 17, an ICG Ship on patrol received a distress call from an Indian fishing boat (IFB) operating near the No-Fishing Zone (NFZ).Despite efforts by the PMSA ship to retreat, ICG Ship intercepted the PMSA ship and persuaded them to relieve Indian fishermen.
- Unfortunately, the Indian fishing boat Kal Bhairav was reported to have been damaged and sunk during the incident.
EAM Jaishankar meets with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the margins of the G20 Summit in Brazil capitla city Rio de Janeiro.
- “On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio, met CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi of China,” Jaishankar said in his X post. He said that the two leaders “noted the progress in the recent disengagement in the India-China border areas”.
- Jaishankar also said that India and China exchanged views on the next steps in the bilateral ties between the two countries and had a discussion on the global situation.
- Meanwhile, India and China are set to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
11th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus in Lao PDR
- Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will pay an official visit to Vientiane, Lao PDR from November 20-22, 2024, to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus). He will address the forum on Regional and International Security Issues during the meeting.
- On the sidelines of 11th ADMM-Plus meeting, Raksha Mantri is expected to hold bilateral meetings with participating counterparts from Australia, China, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Republic of Korea and USA.
- ADMM is the highest defence consultative and cooperative mechanism in ASEAN. ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN member states (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and its eight Dialogue Partners (India, US, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand) to strengthen security and defence cooperation.
- India became the dialogue partner of ASEAN in 1992, and the inaugural ADMM-Plus was convened in Hanoi, Vietnam on October 12, 2010. Since 2017, ADMM-Plus Ministers have been meeting annually to bolster the cooperation amongst ASEAN and the Plus countries. Lao PDR is the chair and host of 11th ADMM-Plus.
