Commissioning of Indian Navy’s INS Nirdeshak

  • INS Nirdeshak, the second ship of Survey Vessel (Large) project, was commissioned into the Indian Navy, in a ceremony presided over by Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.
  • The second of the four ships of Survey Vessel (Large) project under construction at M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Kolkata.
  • The ship is designed to conduct hydrographic surveys, aid in navigation, and support maritime operations.
  • Built with over 80% indigenous content, the ship is embedded with advanced hydrographic systems such as Multi Beam Echo Sounders, Side Scan Sonars, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Remotely Operated Vehicle etc.

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng stresses “Political Mutual Trust

  • Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with NSA Ajit Doval in Beijing and emphasised the need to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen political mutual trust, and revive institutional dialogue.
  • He also called for enhanced cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, and culture to restore bilateral ties to a path of “stable development.”
  • Doval attended the 23rd Meeting of the Special Representatives of India and China, along with Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, with discussions focusing on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border.
  • The SRs also exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest and provided positive directions for cross-border cooperation and exchanges including resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, data sharing on trans-border rivers and border trade.
  • NSA Doval also invited Wang Yi to visit India at a mutually convenient date to hold the next round of SR meeting.

Indian Army Launches AI Incubation Centre

  • Indian Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Incubation Centre (IAAIIC) in Bengaluru.
  • The virtual inauguration was done by Gener Upendra Dwivedi, reflecting the Indian Army’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies and empowering its personnel with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • This centre is set to develop cutting-edge data-driven solutions, improving decision-making, operational efficiency, and readiness for AI-driven warfare within the Army. The centre is being established in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
  • Operational Edge: The IAAIIC is aimed to position the Indian Army at the forefront of defence technology, equipping it for multi-domain warfare.

Mumbai Boat Accident

  • A devastating maritime accident occurred claiming the lives of 13 people near Mumbai as an Indian Navy boat collided with the passenger ferry Neelkamal, causing it to capsize while en route from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves.
  • The accident has reportedly led to the tragic loss of 13 lives including 1 Naval personnel and 2 OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) reps onboard the Naval craft. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the incident occurred around 3:55 pm when a passenger vessel named Neelkamal capsized in the sea after colliding with a Navy boat.The Chief Minister announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh would be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives.
  • The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the boat mishap in Mumbai. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

US Sanctions 4 Firms Aiding Pakistan’s Ballistic Missile Program

  • The US sanctioned four entities that were contributing to Pakistan’s Ballistic Missile Program.
  • Pakistan’s National Development Complex – which is responsible for Pakistan’s ballistic missile program and has worked to acquire items to advance Pakistan’s long range ballistic missile program – and Affiliates International, Akhtar and Sons Private Limited, and Rockside Enterprise – which have worked to supply equipment and missile-applicable items to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program.
  • The National Development Complex (NDC), located in Islamabad, Pakistan, has worked to acquire items in furtherance of Pakistan’s long range ballistic missile program – including special vehicle chassis intended to be used as launch support equipment for ballistic missiles and missile testing equipment. The United States assesses NDC is responsible for Pakistan’s development of ballistic missiles, including the SHAHEEN-series ballistic missiles, the statement said.
