The United States has taken a significant step in bolstering its defense relationship with Qatar by approving a substantial arms package valued at $1.96 billion. This deal includes the sale of eight MQ-9B drones along with related equipment, underscoring the close alliance between Washington and the Gulf nation.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the proposed sale aims to support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a key partner in the Middle East. Qatar is characterized as an important player in fostering political stability and economic progress in the region.
The DSCA emphasized that the acquisition of the MQ-9B drones would significantly enhance Qatar’s military capabilities. The drones are expected to provide timely intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, which are crucial for target acquisition and countering land and maritime threats.
