Major General Vikas Bhardwaj Reviews Sikh Regimental Centre's Training and Technological Advancements

Major General Vikas Bhardwaj, the General Officer Commanding of the Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area, recently conducted an in-depth review of the Sikh Regimental Centre located in Ramgarh Cantt. This visit was a part of the Indian Army’s broader mission to modernize its forces and improve the quality of life for soldiers and their families. It focused on critical areas such as training methodologies, operational preparedness, and administrative efficiency.

The highlight of Major General Bhardwaj’s visit included an extensive briefing on the initiatives undertaken by the Centre to incorporate cutting-edge technology into the training of Agniveers—recruits under the Agnipath Scheme introduced by the Government of India in June 2022. This innovative program aims to cultivate a younger and more dynamic workforce for the Indian Armed Forces, ensuring a tech-savvy approach to modern military operations. A standout feature during the visit was an inspection of a modern indoor shooting range. This facility, equipped with digital targets, symbolizes the Army’s commitment to enhancing training standards through technological advancements.

During his interaction with the Agniveers, Major General Bhardwaj motivated the recruits to strive for professional excellence. He also assessed the measures implemented to enhance the quality of life for troops and their families stationed at the Centre. Emphasizing the significance of holistic development in conjunction with operational readiness, he praised the Centre for its endeavors to align with the Indian Army’s overarching goals. Under the Surya Command, the Centre has been focusing on fostering a strong synergy with local civil administration while maintaining high standards of discipline and preparedness.

The Sikh Regimental Centre, established on August 1, 1846, by the British East India Company, remains a crucial pillar of the esteemed Sikh Regiment. This regiment is renowned for its distinguished service and bravery across various historical conflicts, including both World Wars. Today, it comprises 19 regular infantry and two reserve battalions, and the Centre in Ramgarh plays a crucial role in training recruits who are tasked with upholding the regiment’s storied traditions of valor and service while simultaneously adapting to the demands of modern warfare.

Major General Bhardwaj’s visit follows a prior inspection at the Punjab Regimental Centre in December 2024, reinforcing a consistent focus on enhancing operational capabilities across regimental centres in the region. As the Indian Army continues to prioritize the integration of technology and professional development, it aims to ensure that its forces are well-equipped to meet contemporary challenges while honoring their rich heritage.
