IMDEX – 2025
- The visit is part of the Indian Navy’s operational deployment and underscores the robust maritime partnership between India and Singapore.
- During the stay, the ships’ crew will engage in a series of bilateral/ multilateral activities, including professional exchanges with the Republic of Singapore Navy and other participating navies of IMDEX Asia 2025.
- These engagements aim to strengthen naval cooperation, enhance interoperability, and promote mutual understanding between the two navies.
- The year 2025 marks the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore.
- Singapore is a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and our vision of the Indo-Pacific. For the 60th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, several commemorative events are being planned that reflect the significance India and Singapore attach to the bilateral partnership.
- Singapore is India’s largest trade partner in ASEAN; it’s India’s 6th largest trade partner (2023-24).
- Bilateral trade expanded after the conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) to USD 35.6 billion (2023-24).

Army Soldier among 15 killed in Pak firing
- At least 15 people, including four children and a soldier, were killed and 57 injured as exchange of fire along LoC in J&K intensified on Wednesday, said officials. Army’s White Knight Corps paid tributes to Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar for laying down his life during Pakistan shelling.
- After India carried out strikes in Pakistan and PoK in the early hours of Wednesday, apprehensions of escalation grew in J&K. Airports in Srinagar and Jammu were closed for all civilian flights and examinations postponed at least till May 10.
- Artillery and mortar shelling in the forward areas continued for the 13th consecutive night, with the Poonch district along the LoC being the worst hit, where all 12 casualties took place and more than 40 people were injured.
- Shelling was reported from areas including Balakote, Mendhar, Mankote, Krishna Ghati, Gulpur, Kerni and Poonch district headquarters, resulting in damage to several houses and vehicles.
50 Infrastructure Projects of BRO to Nation
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 07 May 2025 reiterated the Government’s commitment to ensure border area development, making special mention of Sela Tunnel which has become a symbol of this resolve to enhance connectivity in strategically-important areas.
- Rajnath Singh was addressing the 66th Raising Day event of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt on Wednesday.
- He highlighted the vision of PM Narendra Modi to revitalise border villages, stating that initiatives like the Vibrant Villages Programme under which the Government is increasing connectivity by building about 35 kilometers of roads every day, according to the Ministry of Defence.

- Officers from the Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES) and personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) form the parent cadre of the BRO. Quad Concludes Simulation Exercise
- The US Department of State in a statement on Wednesday (local time) said that the Quad partners convened at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii for a Tabletop Exercise, a simulation to launch the Quad-IPLN-exercise (IPLN).
- “From April 28 to May 2, the Quad partners (the United States, Australia, India, and Japan) convened at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii for a Tabletop Exercise, a simulation to launch the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network (IPLN),” the statement read.
- “IPLN is an initiative that enables Quad partners to leverage shared logistics capabilities in the Indo-Pacific to support civilian response to natural disasters more rapidly and efficiently across the region,” the statement added.
Israel, Greece Deepen Defense Ties
- Israel and Greece signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Athens on Wednesday to offer the Blue Whale autonomous submarine system to the Hellenic Navy.
- Blue Whale’s deployment will offer Hellenic Armed Forces a vessel that “combines anti-submarine warfare, mine countermeasures and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.”
- Developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), BlueWhale, is a large uncrewed underwater vehicle measuring 10.9 meters long, 1.12 meters in diameter and weighing 5.5 tons.
- It can perform a wide range of covert maritime missions, including intelligence-gathering above the sea surface, submarines and underwater target detection, acoustic intelligence collection and search for and detect naval mines on the seabed.
