Exail has entered into a strategic partnership with Babcock France to provide advanced flight simulation systems aimed at enhancing the training of pilots in the French Air and Space Force and the French Navy on the Pilatus PC-7 MKX aircraft. This collaboration is backed by a substantial 17-year contract issued by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, encompassing the comprehensive design, delivery, and ongoing support for these training systems.
As part of the agreement, Exail is set to deliver a collection of interconnected mixed-reality simulators designed for maximum training effectiveness. These simulators will feature cutting-edge technology, including headsets, touchscreens, high-fidelity software, and a specialist ejection training simulator to instruct pilots on emergency procedures. The innovative systems are designed to leverage immersive technologies and open-cockpit layouts, facilitating autonomous and scenario-based pilot training.
Exail emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that its next-generation simulation technologies will enhance realism, flexibility, and immersion within the training framework. The company aims to accelerate skill acquisition, bolster mission preparedness, and foster a more efficient training environment for military pilots.
The French military is advancing its pilot training program by adopting the Pilatus PC-7 MKX as the new standard training aircraft. This move aligns with the broader Mentor 2 initiative, which seeks to modernize pilot instruction across various branches of the French armed forces. Earlier this year, France placed an order for 22 PC-7 MKX aircraft, along with ground-based training systems that have been partially developed in conjunction with local industry partners.
In addition to the aircraft, the order encompasses an array of simulators, digital training tools, mission planning systems, and equipment for debriefing, all intended to support the comprehensive training program. These aircraft deliveries are slated to commence in 2027.
The PC-7 MKX boasts impressive specifications, achieving a top speed of 555 kilometers (345 miles) per hour. Its wingspan measures 10.4 meters (34.3 feet), while it is 10.2 meters (33.7 feet) long and 3.2 meters (10.7 feet) tall. For enhanced safety, the aircraft is equipped with Martin-Baker ejection seats, allowing for safe pilot emergency escapes. Through these advancements, Exail and Babcock France are poised to significantly contribute to the future of military pilot training in France.
